The ball fall’s now into Carney’s court. Many feel that an all-out statewide slug fest primary will fare poorly for the Democratic party. But, sometimes a backyard brawl is needed to settle pecking order. Perhaps this could turn out well for Democrats. No one will be able to hide. Even the entrounced Democrats occasionally known to sit on bills, will not be immune from public scrutiny.

Many feel Markell is best for pushing our state forward. They are held back by only a feeling that it really was “Carney’s turn.” He has been loyal and done “all the right things.” But whenever push comes to shove, progressiveness usually outperforms sentimentality, and particularly if the Democrats wish to hang onto the governorship in 2008, they will have no choice but to sharpen the voter’s perception of Democrats as being the party of change, and work hard on defense to steer the focus away from “more of ‘doing great’: repeat the last eight.”

Markell fits that new role better.

But, should Carney decide not to challenge Jack Markell’s run and instead turn his eyes to acquiring the pro-Bush Castle’s seat, which is now appears quite vulnerable, the resulting Democratic trifecta could be a nice going away present for some of the old guard of Democrats, who will soon be retiring. It is primarily this group who are the ones responsible for sucking support away from the Republican party this last decade, and planting Delaware firmly into the column of Blue States.

Of course, some of “W” Bush’s courses of action may have had some impact as well……………….
