The Inside Story: A Celebration of American Politics, deeply rooted in the lives and actions of our founding fathers. We examine today’s politics through the lens of history and sort out what is relevant, from what is personal vanity. And while doing so, we will have the time of our lives, always remembering, that our founding fathers set up this government for the people, of the people, and by the people, to protect us from ourselves.

Kavips,
I can’t thank Your Ghostiness enough for the string of commentary on Delmarva Power’s machinations. This weekend when I was ready to scream, you busted the door down on DPL, and let me know I am still among the sane. This whole situation reeks of much more than cronyism. The truth will come out in time. But for now, it’s all about what we must do to stop Delmarva from committing one of the most heinous hijackings of the public interest in state history. Same goes for the DPA’s bizarre consultant report and filing. Where did the money come for that?
One day, I hope to shake your hand.
Best regards, Pat

Kavips,
A group of us bloggers has gathered together to create a weekly, round-robin version of Around the Horn/Outside the Perimeter. DE Bloggers will submit stories to be presented by the week’s host at the beginning of the week and all submissions will be presented by the host on that Friday.
I initiated this effort to try to build a little more of a community feel for the DE Bloggers and to allow them to showcase articles that they are particularly proud of. So far, we have a lot of bloggers that have agreed to host.
I wanted to get you involved in this from the get-go, but didn’t want to post about it publicly in case the idea died, and couldn’t get you in on the emails due to your understandable desire for privacy. We’re ready to get the ball rolling on it, but I don’t want to step on your toes. I’d really like to have your input before we go forward.
You have my email address, but you can also post your thoughts here on my about page. Please get in touch 🙂

Getting it Wrong:
The United States in Colombia
Featuring Adam Isacson
Investigator for the Center for International Policy
Sponsored by the Phoenix Community in Delaware, Inc.
Sunday, May 4, 2008, 7:00 p.m.
New Ark United Church of Christ Wells Hall, 300 E. Main Street, Newark, Delaware
$5 donation requested. Coffee and dessert will be served
Newark, April 20, 2008—With the Colombia-US Free Trade Agreement hanging in the balance, Colombia has re-entered the national conversation. Adam Isacson, just back from Colombia on behalf of the Washington-based Center for International Policy, will report on his findings in a Phoenix Community forum Sunday, May 4 at 7 PM.
Mr. Isacson will tell the story of how Colombia came to its current crisis of violence and social injustice, the role that the United States has played, the current challenges, and how we can help Colombia turn the tide and achieve peace with justice and prosperity.
Colombia has become the largest recipient of military aid outside the Middle East. According to Mr. Isacson, “[w]hile the Bush administration has sought to portray its Colombia policy as a success, gains have been modest and in some areas—like the drug war and the search for peace—ground has been lost.”
A proposed Colombia-US Free Trade Agreement has stalled in congress, partly as a result of increased scrutiny since presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was forced to demote chief campaign strategist Mark Penn for promoting the trade pact while Clinton was opposing it on the campaign trail. With over 2000 trade unionists murdered in recent years, ties to Colombia could damage Clinton’s standing with labor.
Colombia has also been in the news since its armed forces crossed into Ecuador in March to kill Colombian guerillas said to be engaged in diplomatic discussions with Ecuador, Venezuela, and France for the release of hostages.
The forum will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the New Ark United Church of Christ Wells Hall, 300 E. Main Street in Newark. Coffee and dessert will be served and a $5 donation is requested.
The Phoenix Community in Delaware, Inc. is an ecumenical ministry with a global perspective since 1954.

Temko To Formally Announce Candidacy
Youngest Elected Official in Delaware seeks re-election to city council Ezra Temko, 24, will formally announce his candidacy on Saturday, December 12, thus kicking off his re-election campaign to continue to represent the Fifth District on Newark City Council. The event will begin at 3:30 pm and will end around 5:00 pm. It will be held at Councilman Temko’s home (42 Lynn Drive, Fairfield Crest; Newark, DE 19711).
This announcement will kick off Temko’s second campaign for city council. Just as his first campaign was truly grassroots, this campaign will continue what Temko started. His campaign will be the start of a conversation with constituents about what he can do for the Newark community if elected to a second term. Temko will be visiting his constituents door-to-door over the next few months to get their feedback and ideas.

Temko is running on the same platform of Committed to Community, focusing on three main issues: community vitality, environmental sustainability, and good governance. Temko’s first term was full of successes; his leadership ranged from starting the West Newark Civic League with Councilman Pomeroy to helping establish the first traffic calming committee in the city’s history. Temko’s work led to the establishment of the Newark Fellows Program, a Conservation Advancement Program, and a Citizens Academy. In his second term, Temko will continue to work hard at effecting positive change for Newark and bringing a fresh perspective to the city council.
Temko is currently working as a 6th grade teacher at Prestige Academy in Wilmington, Delaware as part of the AmeriCorps program Teach for America. Temko is a Newark native and grew up in the Fifth District.

Nice to see that there are people out there that think rather than get caught up in the fear and hate mongering that seems to be spewing from the Republican Party lately. Keep up the good work, you’re not alone.

I am a student at the University of Delaware and recently I launched a free job search website, PlentyofResumes.com. As a Delaware resident I will be mainly focusing on spreading the word in, you guessed it, Delaware. Please shoot me an email with any comments or questions.
Thanks

Dear kavips,
Would you please check in on Delaware online again today? By golly, they are reporting Delaware Ed leaders “promise” they aren’t going to be sharing anymore once protected Ed information on our kids other than what was “necessary” and previously shared. Kavips would you please espouse to your dear readers the parsing of words they choose to give this cover? You and I know it’s a done deal. Our children have been essentially technologically tattooed, and some of that in a child’s long, developmental, maturing, experential, inquisitive, fumbling, adolescent, awkward, walk into adulthood could mean a bunch of bad ink. Thank you for any assistance you can give in the exposing the diminishing comfort of privacy from nursery to nursing home. Bowel habits duly noted. 🙂
