Susan Monday came on at 9:00 today. Susan hails from 105.9, a sister station of WDEL located in Dover. Al has been scrubbed entirely from the WDEL website. Today Susan’s conversation was imported from 2006… “What we should do about waterboarding?” Really? I flipped stations after 15 minutes because that battle was fought and won 10 years ago… The two callers I recognized from battling them back then on Delaware Politics and Delaware Right. Even with Al, I always had another station burning in the background but would hold off depending on Al’s topics. With Susan, it is now a no brainer.
Furthermore at exactly the same time, Allan Loudell’s blog comment section has switched over to only to Facebook verification, there is no bypass. Those of you who do comment on Facebook, and feel disheartened by Al’s absence, should go to Allan Loudell’s blog and replicate the thread you put down at Delaware Liberal..
Whether this change was insisted by someone to shut down a very powerful voice which did create multiple backlashes which in fact, did stymie a rather large number of New Castle County crony get-rich-schemes, OR…. whether it was as is being played, a business move to try and grow more conservative listeners downstate,….. either way, there is now no progressive main stream media outlet in this state.
It’s like the world just went silent.
=====
What can we do?
Use your facebook account to log onto her greeting on Al Loudell’s Blog and express your complaint. (If you get scrubbed, comment on that too, here)
Join the boycott of Boulden Brothers, Sobieski, Calvert (Now One Hour Air) Horizon HVAC, Concord Pet. They are the largest commercial advertisers. (can’t really boycott the DSEA)… Hitting them publicly will put progressitivity back on the burner faster than anything else. Visit them on Facebook.
Scold Susan Monday’s twitter feed that Northern Delaware’s attention span is too short for her ramblings; we are all dropping off … 30 tweets allegedly stand for 30,000 people who didn’t bother to tweet but feel the same way… (That is what Twitter advertising claims.)
And of course tell everyone you know how WDEL has gone downhill. I guess it was destined, being the only true news source in the tri-state area; eventually it would have to go the way of all the others… Now all we get is one sided news, efficiently scrubbed clean of any progressive points, and therefore one sided. WDEL just went from great icon status, to another News Journal.. Seriously, how many of you still look at that anymore?
Sigh, I guess I’ll have to pay more attention to the blogs…

Great piece. I’ll be handing out flyers at my next Union meeting naming the sponsors and asking my Brothers to boycott them and WDEL.

Al Mascitti was the best thing on local radio for 10 years! I started listening to him when he first came to WDEL and he made my morning somvery inetresting. He is intelligent, well read, open to other opinions and a very entertaining host. He will be sorely missed and I will no longer be a consumer of WDEL’s product. I tried listening to his replacement and was almost bored to tears after 5 minutes. I look forward to being able to hear and/or read him in some other venue. Goodbye for now, Al, and good luck to you!

Sadly, not seeing it coming, the thought of preserving his wisdom in a repository never occurred to me. Sadly the archives were wiped clean. I found myself wishing I could go back and hear all those days I missed thinking it wouldn’t hurt because they’d go on forever….

It sure would be nice to find out the inside story of why Mascitti left WDEL. I was a faithfull daily listener to his program, and I called in myself many times during his tenure. He was the ONLY liberal voice on the local airways and was never afraid to admit he was wrong about something or to apologize to a caller or his audience when he lost his cool(which I have to admit I enjoyed) i hope that any new info on Al and where he might go from here will be available on this site.

How true. I retired last September and I have been loving every single second of my time punching a clock.

I am sure this is the biggest lost for the radio industry on educated matters. I hope he find another talk show , where we will continue to gain intelligence. Miss you real bad Mr Al Massette. One love brother.

If at first ……try again. I tried Susan Thursday once again while returning to Pike Creek from beautiful Elkton. Topics included a Sussex dude who has appointed himself Trump of Delaware. Then an intense conversation about the road work in DE. I just want to go on record as saying there were no problems with traffic. But we had to hear about all of Susan’s problems in the Sussex. I have a solution. Stay home! I am sorry DEL but I tried again and the show is terrible. Her agenda. Limited knowledge ( she can’t fool me about living in Philly and never hearing of the Surekill Expressway. Heaven help you if you go off topic, cause she’ll cut you off. Please tell us where you are keeping Al. What ransom do we need to pay. Remember, Jesus died for your sins too.

Yes, here is the type of conversation one hears on her show…..
“Ok kids, I read a great book and we are going to discuss it… It is so cool and has pictures… it is called “See Dick Run”…. Now can someone give me a call and tell me what on earth the cat is thinking on page 3? I can’t believe that cat is up to any good… Is there a bird we can’t see? Or a rabbit? Or maybe it’s an eagle flying overhead that scares it? Or an owl? Or a Pig… No? Well it could be pig… you’ve heard the saying “when pigs fly” Yuck-yuck-yuck…And when I lived in Philadelphia I did see a pig fly.. It was for the Pink Floyd Concert… But what do you think, and please give “Su-Mo” a call, .. right now at. 839-1059 if you’re are local here in Dover. or from north of the state, at 302 478 9335 and yell at me if you feel the need, or console me if you don’t, but do you or do you not, think the cat pictured on page three is up to no good?… Please call now…. I can’t wait to hear what you think…..
Did I nail it?

It is now November, 2016. I , as of last week, no longer listen to WDEL- or anything on the AM band. The righ-wing can talk to themselves. Really tried to give Susan Monday a chance. The last word I hope to ever hear from her were: “The Republican Convention is where I decided that I should vote for Donald Trump.”
This is a dark time. Everyone I know is discouraged.
