Charter Schools. This never happens in a public school. Or in a school run by Democrats. And what should really burn, is that those 330 students pulled out $1.2 million dollars from the surrounding public schools…
Call your legislator today. Tell them to stop funding charters out of public school’s monies… Give them a line item in the state budget.
In this case not only did the students in this Charter School suffer, but so did every other student who had money stolen away from their education….
(btw, the headline was Allan Loudell’s lead off line this afternoon, Good one!)

Why are you so fixated on the reduction $1.2 million of revenue that the surrounding government schools will not be able to claim? How about the reduction in costs associated with the 330 students who will now not be attending the surrounding government schools. Let’s put a dollar amount to that number. It’s quite possible that the government schools will have a net increase of District funds given a certain level of class size reduction. That’s good for the property tax payers since it would put off any tax increases or referendums. Please give the total math picture.

Thanks for the comment. First, when charter schools take children, they take the money off the top. The schools left, don’t lose any expenses. They still have to run the same buses, just half full. They still have to heat the buildings, just get have the money to do so. They still have to have the same amount of teachers. Get half the money to pay them. They still have to run the cafeteria. Just get half the money to pay the expenses. Their utilities don’t go down. So in a nut shell, they get less money and have the same expenses…
What do you do in your house when your income drops? You cut back on non-necessities. Doing so in the school environment takes away from the quality of education all those children will get. Cut the soccer team. Drop football. Kill basketball. Stop baseball. Shut down the music department… No drama clubs…
So why are these children having to go through high school with zero sports and zero extra curricular activities?
Simply because some knucklehead pushed charter schools to move in and take the funding from all those children in public schools.
Charter schools are a menace to society. They take resources from the 80% and spoon feed them to the 20% secured inside of charter schools. All of Society suffers because Charter Schools do not teach as well as do public schools.. So the pain is compounded because all our resources are going to an inferior product. Just like in your household, if all your utility-bill money was being wasted on jewelry…
I would think this would be obvious to anyone with common sense… and not need an explanation….

You do not need to attend a Charters School to become a Nurse, Police Officer or Firefighter. A student can become all of these professions and more by attending a Traditional Public School. Plus, your child will get a more well-rounded educational experience- Arts, Music, Drama, Language Arts ect..
