It Could Be Worse….

Today it is depicted as sml.  Or fml.  Loosely translated, it means “I’m screwed”….

When I was young, grandparents were very sympathetic.  So we milked them for it.  However to all my problems they had one answer. “Well, it could be worse.”  i always felt that was a cop-out, like “hey, really man?  I come to you for aged wisdom and guidance and all you can tell me is that… hey dude, you know man, it could be worse?”

Funny.

Only now I am fully comprehending what it must have been like living through the Great Depression.  Only now can I fully realize what it was like to lose your house, your farm, and actually have nothing.  Only now can I fully realize the true horror of having evil tear apart your world, and land a sucker punch out of the blue with an unprovoked Pearl Harbor or an invasion through the Ardennes.  Only now, can I appreciate what it truly meant, that zero ships made it up the coast from Florida to New York in quite a few months. Only now can I fully realize what it meant to watch evil take out civilization like shutting off light switches and there was nothing we could do about it except read of the defeats in the newspaper….  Only now, can I fully realize what it meant to put your life and job and family’s future welfare on the gambling table and agree to strike your employer, until he agreed to pay you a little more than the starvation wages you were stuck in…

What my grandparents were telling me was this:  “That’s not really that bad;  try hard and you can dig yourself out of it… “

What was unsaid, probably because they hated bragging, was this……. “We did, and it was much, much worse than what you face today.”

Quit complaining, and do.

Republicans Love Urine

We’re going somewhere with this.

Republicans legislators in Ohio, Virginia, and Florida have put forth bills to take urine from welfare recipients to test for drugs.

Seriously.  Some well known Republicans brag among themselves that they even want to hold the cup….

Ohio had this bill squashed last spring by their Governor.  It is back again in the form of a three county trial.

Virginia,  tried passing it last year but it was shelved because it would cost the state $1.2 million to implement while saving $ 229,000….

Florida did pass it and too, found out that so few tested positive, that the cost of the testing far outweighed any savings.  Plus, they are still being assessed for legal fees from the action being declared unconstitutional.…

One would think Republicans would remember what doesn’t work.  But no.. Now Kansas and Ohio and Virginia have new legislation to redo the same problem….

I’m just curious,…. with only paltry savings on the indigent, why wasn’t this procedure proscribed when we lent big banks  an open line of credit to put themselves back on their feet?

Did we make AIG pee in a cup?  Did we make Bank of  America pee in a cup? Did we make Citibank pee in a cup? And why not?

I wonder how much cocaine those $4o million in bonuses bought?  Poor people don’t do coke.  They don’t have that kind of money.

Just imagine if testing positive could have save us $440 billion?

Since Democrats don’t legislate pee, it can only mean Republican do other things like fantasize  with pee when they are behind closed doors.  For if you didn’t love pee so much…. ugh, why would you even bring it up?

Politico Reports Even “Titians of Industry” are Pushing kavipsian Economic Plan

Politico is reporting that the titians of industry are lining up to parade through Washington in support of higher taxes. They know that higher taxes create stability, and right now, the lack of stability is disrupting the economy.

A. The reason taxes are low, is because of Republicans (Tea Party).
B. Democrats tried to raise taxes in 2010, but Republicans stopped it in the Senate.

Politico even comments that… where as one would expect the titians of industry to support low taxes, they don’t. Low taxes cause growth to stalemate and die. Higher tax rates actually create stability. Politico reports that their “aim is simple: Get a big budget deal that provides stability for investors by eliminating the threats of government shutdowns, credit-rating downgrades, debt ceiling disasters and wide fluctuations in spending and tax policy”.

Everything this Republican House has caused. government shutdowns; credit rating downgrades, debt ceiling disasters, and wild fluctuating in spending and tax policy, everything Republicans have stood up for, IS VERY BAD FOR THE ECONOMY.

And so they are lining up to parade through Washington…. to? As Politico puts it… they are lining up to: offer Republicans cover from backlash from tea party supporters and anti-tax advocates if they sign on to anything that includes increased revenue.

Yep. Low taxes are bad for the economy. High taxes are good. The big whigs are going to provide “cover” (ie. campaign dollars) to squelch the wrongness of the Tea Party and nuts like Grover Norquist.

Why?

Because kavips was right. Higher taxes will explode economic growth and you had better have both hands free to scoop up the prosperity. It will be like a rushing mountain stream tumbling into a desert.

We all know it is true. It’s been true ever since we’ve been born….
