Their contract ends this Friday… No one is talking about it. Except every port mayor, every governor, and those that study economies… The American press, hardly a mention… The English? A totally different story!!!!
America is likely to face the threat of a strike by longshoremen, which could shut down America’s major ports. The last time that happened, it cost the US economy $1bn a day. A week ago, talks broke down between the International Longshoremen’s Association and the US Maritime Alliance Ltd. The ILA represents around 15,000 dockworkers and the Maritime Alliance represents the management at 14 of the biggest US ports, including Boston, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Savannah, New Orleans, and Houston.
The longshoremen’s contract expires on Friday, and a strike would begin on Saturday. The issue is so major that the National Retail Federation joined 100 other associations – including the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, American Apparel & Footwear Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Association of Manufacturers, National Retail Federation, Toy Industry Association and the US Chamber of Commerce – to send a letter to the president on Wednesday pleading for White House intervention….
As one can see here, ports make up a huge part of any ocean bordering state’s economy……
All the ports have to do, is give unions what they want. It will not work the other way around…. People eating trumps other people’s dividends….
The idea of this concept is to get information that is clean and pure out to voters. Just facts. Spin your own damn interpretation if you will.
The impetus for this came from an exchange in which when confronted with the statement that Obama has created more jobs than Bush and Romney put together the party said …. “that is simply not true.” After exchanged glances it became apparent over her defensive argument that she really did not know. So this is being created to illuminate, educate, and bring all of America to at least …. the same table.
Bill Clinton created 23 million jobs in 8 years. The most George Bush at his peak, created was 4 million. When the bubble burst, at his end in office, his total net was in negative numbers. -1.5 million negative jobs created. So far as of June this year, the Obama administration has created 4.1 million new private sector jobs.
So.
We now have sour economic news. Whose fault is it?
The Republicans have controlled the House now since 2011. In that time frame….. while they were busy proposing bills they knew would never pass, they produced nothing even resembling a job creation initiative. Lots of bills to; kill Medicare; weaken the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts; protect oil company profits; and limit women’s reproductive right. But no plan to create jobs.
During that same time frame, Democrats did this….. and all would have passed and become law except for the blockage of the Republican stopping up the bowels of the House.
The Build America Bonds to Create Jobs Now Act
The American Jobs Matter Act
The National Manufacturing Strategy Act
The Advanced Vehicle Manufacturing Technology Act
The Currency Reform and Fair Trade Act (which would address currency manipulation that causes jobs to be sent to China)
And a patent reform bill that would have prioritized patent applications based on the inventor’s willingness to manufacture in the United States.
Those that follow news know this to be the absolute truth, but for those who didn’t here is just one prime example……. You can look up the facts yourself….
When faced with Republican intransigence in Congress they sent the American Jobs Act, a $447 billion bill that contained a large number of initiatives designed to create jobs immediately, as well as incentives for businesses to create jobs. Basically, the breakdown was 53% tax breaks and 47% expenditures.
The Republican caucus stripped all by 11 billion from the Bill, keeping a few tax cuts. Republicans officially killed the bill by having zero Republicans vote for it in the Senate. This bill to jump start the economy and create jobs was killed by Republicans in the Senate.
Desperate to get jobs created, the Democrats carved out a small piece of that bill ($35 billion) and sent that small piece which would have prevented local governments from cutting police, firemen, and teachers as their funds shriveled up….. Republicans killed it. Every single Republican voted against keeping Police and Firemen on local government’s payrolls. Not only did Republicans not create jobs, they killed jobs, even in these very important sectors.
The Democrats then put forward a $60 billion Jobs Bill that would have repaired bridges, highways, and transportation hubs. Republicans in the Senate killed it.
Furthermore when the Highway Bill came up for a vote ($100 billion that is used for the daily maintenance of Highways), it did garner 22 Republicans of the Senate, who knew killing that bill was a no-go back home. But, Eric Cantor and Boehner of the House claimed the normal bill was too expensive, killed it agreeing punt the current funding for a three month extension. We are at the end of those three months, and there has been nothing done to move forward by those responsible of its death.
Bottom line is that there has been quite a bit of considerable effort by Democrats to create jobs, to get the economy started, and to make life truly better for Americans.
There is only one reason it hasn’t happened.
Republicans killed each and every attempt.
Have you heard of it???
Neotane…. Crazy… neither had I….
Looking it up here…. this is what I found….
“Aspartame can step aside. There’s a new sweetener in town and it isn’t saddled with the inconvenience of having to be listed on labels, so it can be sneaked into any prepared food, even USDA so-called Organic. So sayeth the FDA. Neotame is a Monsanto-created chemical similar to Aspartame, including its neurotoxic properties.”
Monsanto’s Aspartane patent is about to run out.. Neotame is far more toxic, but supposedly just as safe…. because less will be used in diet soda…. (we hope)….
Oh, well you say… one more item to look out for when you read labels at the grocery store….
Or, I never worry.. I only buy organic……..
But, even though this is far more toxic than anything ever put on a grocery store shelf (gigantic doses of formaldehyde)… it received exemption from labeling by the FDA….
(By the way, it IS in organic food)…. too…
WHAT?
“Don’t bother me none; all I ever eat is steak…”
The most toxic food chemical ever created is not labeled by the FDA? How could this be?
Neotane is made by Monsanto….
There was some protest…
Republicans have dire need of a smoking gun to go after that crony capitalist Obama…. Here is is…
Of course, and Executive Order could fix the problem, if it changed both the policy on labeling and on adding an appropriate health warning… Those are the issues…
After all, Monsanto doesn’t need to make any more money…
As the job reports came out, Republicans were quick to jump up Obama’s butt.
Mitt Romney: “He’s going to have a hard time putting perfume on this pig,”
In the past that is what would have been reported. But, since the Occupy groups have pointed out the hyprcrisy in the press, many of the major new organizations are finally steering back to the age old tradition of reporting facts…
When facts get thrown around, Republicans look pretty shabby.
Fact 1: If one separates the private sector away from the public sector jobs being formed, the economy looks rather good. For 21 straight months, the number of private-sector jobs has grown, by a total of 2.9 million. The reason for the growth has been federal stimulus funneling money back into the economy…..
Fact 2: The prime factor for the entire unemployment figure being steady and unchanging, is the loss of 603,000 government employee jobs over the same period. That loss is because of the Tea Party Republicans refused to pass any legislation, even if critical, until they got the right to start closing departments. If Republicans are not eliminated completely out of power, this trend of losses would continue.
Thereby adding Fact 1 and Fact 2, we see how bad Republicans are for the economy on two fronts. One, their policies kill jobs in the private sector, as well as cut jobs in the public sector….
Put bluntly, what happens when you fire a teacher and she goes to work for McDonald’s at 30% of what she once made? The entire local economy suffers…
Here we have the Republicans keeping America from getting back to work, and blaming Obama for their actions creating a bad economy…. The best way to get the economy roaring gangbusters, is to have a House of Representatives that is 100% Democratic, and a Senate ( it can’t be 100% because not all Senators are up for Election)… that is… 63% Democratic…
Then watch the economy take off……
But what is far more interesting, is now that along with me and the foreign press, since the Occupy Movement struck a chord in America’s soul, major American journalists are now getting back on the bandwagon of truth.
Facts are a Republicans worst nightmare…..
Republicans zero’d out the Interagency Council on Homelessness. This agency is what makes churches and private taking care of homeless possible.
Republicans zero’d out $1.1 billion from Head Start. Putting 200,000 toddlers on the streets, and eliminating 55,000 teachers.
Republicans zero’d out the Administration on Aging, and cut out block grants which keep Meals on Wheels and Senior Centers alive.
Republicans cut out 81,000 people from getting food each day, by zeroing out the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides food to low-income Americans….
Republicans zero’d out money being sent to poverty-focused international assistance programs, which will largely hurt women and girls who have no other source of food or medical help.
But they will not raise one penny on millionaire and billionaires…
These guys are really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, … sick.
Republican speaker of the House, invited Jim Plante to Obama’s job speech as an example of how federal regulations stymied business.
Apparently Mr. Plante’s company, Pathway, was about to land a contract with Walgreens to sell it’s kits nationwide, and then was violently attacked by the FDA and Walgreen’s pulled out….. “Oh what a horrible crime it was…”
Republicans just licked it up……. “Despite being in compliance with all available FDA regulations, the FDA attacked Pathway in the media following the announcement of the partnership. (Walgreens) consequently backed out, and Pathway was unable to create those 100 new high-paying jobs.”
And now…. the other side of the story……
The kit, sold under the brand name Insight, comes with a vial and a shipping envelope. Buyers send a sample of their saliva to a Pathway Genomics laboratory and receive their genetic health report online.
“GAO investigators sent samples taken from the exact same person to four companies, the report said. In one case, the companies told the same donor he was at below-average, average and above-average risk for the same diseases.”
In another case, a patient implanted with a pacemaker to control irregular heart beat was told he was at decreased risk of developing the heart condition…….
In other words, it was totally faked….
So, Republicans apparently think anyone should be able to sell anything medical with no oversight or regulation… In their mind, having a regulatory agency just say: “hey, this simply doesn’t match up to the claims it is making…” is bad for business…
As they used to say in Little Italy… “Yep, it might be bad for business, but that means it’s good for the rest of us…”
Republicans on the other hand, said: “Pathway was chosen because it and the others “exemplify businesses and sectors hurt by excessive Washington-imposed barriers preventing them from innovating, growing and creating more jobs.”
Duh… it would have been a whole different ballgame if the stupid kits had worked…. Before the era of Republicans, it used to be fraud to make claims that could not be backed up under testing….
The Republicans way around such blatant fraud? Eliminate the FDA as was done in Congressman Ryan’s budget…
Fact is, if only because of Republicans, we need the FDA, now more than ever. When all someone has to do is say they know the Republican Speaker of the House, to get approval to sell us all something that could possibly send us down a deadly dead end, making us fear we have a horrible condition we don’t have… All because someone hired for $7.25 in the office flipped a coin, and made it up on the spot, that we did have that severe medical condition.. ….
Republicans … “They are the personification of evil in the modern world”…– Ronald Reagan.
Synopsis: A medical company makes blatant claims that it’s product does good. It then misrepresents that it’s product has passed all necessary safety tests and is effective. When the agency in charge of testing says, “No! We weren’t given this product to test”, it correctly causes the retailer to pull out of poor business decision; Republicans cry and call it “excessive regulation”….
Obviously what we need is MORE excessive regulation…… preferably before we kill off all 100 million aged Americans.
Eric Cantor was tipped off early that the firm of Standard and Poors was going to devalue the dollar, irregardless of whatever deal they came up with.
Prior to the devaluation of America’s Treasury bonds, Eric Cantor had sent a letter (how did he know…), warning the Tea Party Republicans that pressure to raise taxes would be ratcheted up by the upcoming Standard and Poor’s devaluation….
He was right… Thank goodness, after 12 years, with this devaluation, we are finally starting to hear a few of the common sense arguments on the main stream media, that illustrate for all… that raising taxes to “now” be our best economy grower.. .
If you read Standard and Poors correctly, their report implies that the Tea Parties line (the one about NOT raising taxes), IS the primary obstacle that prevents the fixing of America’s debt problems… By implication, that makes the election of Tea Party candidates, the sole reason our bonds were devalued. (On the other hand, according to the ratings agencies, Obama receives high marks for his part in trying to make a better life for all Americans.)
In a secret email, Eric Cantor says…..
“Over the next several months, there will be tremendous pressure on Congress to prove that S&P’s analysis of the inability of the political parties to bridge our differences is wrong. In short, there will be pressure to compromise on tax increases. We will be told that there is no other way forward. I respectfully disagree.” Eric Cantor
He knew well in advance…
He continues….
“We have said from the beginning of the year, the new Republican Majority was elected to change the way Washington does business. We were not elected to raise taxes or take more money out of the pockets of hard working families and business people. People understand Washington can’t keep spending money that it doesn’t have. They want to see less government – not more taxes.
Back up: we were not elected to…. take more money out of the pockets of hard working families and business people……..
No one said anything about more taxes for the 99% on the bottom… At issue is how much to tax the 1% on the top…
Taxing the top 1% at a marginal rate of 40% and increasing capital gains taxes to a rate of 40%…… actually PUTS MORE MONEY BACK INTO THE POCKETS OF HARD WORKING FAMILIES AND THOSE BUSINESS PEOPLE RUNNING THE ESTABLISHMENTS THOSE FAMILIES CHOOSE TO PATRONIZE……..
So you see, Mr. Cantor.. Raising taxes on the top 1% is not a conflict of interest for you… You said so yourself….. We’ll support you in not raising taxes on the bottom 99%…
Raising taxes on just the top 1%, is good.. WHAM!!!!! It jump-starts the economy…. Whereas,….
Cutting taxes for the top 1%, is bad… We all know this is fact. You don’t need me to explain it; you know just from living through the past 12 years of the Bush Tax cuts… The last 12 years have made the Clinton Tax Hike Years in comparison, seem like the true Guilded Age..Gosh, it seems like so, so long ago, when everything was perfect.
The Bush Tax cuts, collapsed the economy…..
Tax Cuts kill jobs. Always have… always will….
(but what is really, truly, profoundly sad, is this exhortation from Eric Cantor) “When given the choice between bettering the American economy, and getting more Republicans in power, you better vote for getting more Republicans in power…Our new motto: F*ck the economy!”)
American debt after Bill Clinton. 6 trillion.
The projections by the Congressional Budget Office were that we were going to run a 6 trillion surplus. If we’d left alone, we would have paid off all our old debt.
Instead, we added 3 trillion in tax cuts.
We lost 3 trillion due to the slow economy, and added 6 trillion in spending due to two wars, and the deficit funded prescription plan.
If Gore had won…
6 Trillion
– 6 Trillion
_____________
0 deficit.
But he conceded too early.
Instead we got….
6 Trillion
-1 Trillion of Clinton’s Package the first year
_______________________________
5 Trillion
+3 Trillion Bush Tax cuts
_________________________
8 Trillion
+6 Trillion in Bush unfunded spending.
___________
14 Trillion in todays deficit.
Where’s the Democrats finger in all this?
It’s not there…………
