This was totally inspired by Nancy’s commentary on last night’s public meeting……  I’m curious.  Does it fit? Like a glove?

Ken Grant, formerly with the Caesar Rodney Institute, a Koch Brothers’ mouthpiece, is now spokesperson for the TDC (The “Data” Center)…  Granted, one would think also a former employee of AnalTech, would be technically more anal about throwing around facts.  At least one would expect a lot less bluster…

Here is his take in the News Journal….

If you should choose to read it, you will find it to be mostly a lambasting of Newarks’ citizens and very little defense of the Data Center…  Very little.  Reminds one of when Caesar Rodney declared global warming was a hoax. It would attack all the scientific knowledge in the world, because it found one glacier out of 400,000 that was growing….   Of course in the readers head would pop this question… But what about the other 399,999?  But the Caesar Rodney Institute was simply too unconcerned with 399,999 other pieces of evidence to even care…

Anyway…  back to what he said….

He said:  there are 4000 CHP’s scattered across the US… Here is the data sheet he pulled up to write his piece….. (pdf)

CHP In

Here are his 4000 units.   Here is what he doesn’t show…

CHP On

Any little business that has a generator that also produces heat is included in his file.  Even the original presentation made to the Newark zoning commission, that the data center would need an auxiliary power source like one might find on an IKEA, is included on the map….  I think it would be safe to assume that were such a small power plant going in at the Data Center, there would be no controversy as we speak…

The problem is the size… Ken Grant in his op-ed makes no mention of his size…   The difference in size is like you took the penises of 5 horses, sewed them together and then attached that to a person…  Saying he has a penis, so does every male… is disingenuous and dishonest…  You are technically correct he has a penis… But …. who would want him in an arranged marriage with their daughter?

It may be true there are 8 people in Manhattan with penises.  Bet none of them spew 10 horse testicle’s full of discharge, do they?

The one he touts in Austin is 52-75 MW. The award winning Texas A and M, is a paltry 60MW.  Delaware will host a 248 MW generator.

Size does matter….

Let us talk water…..   At minimum, the Christina River flows 6 cubic feet per second.  The data center will use  ~34.7 gallons per second (~3 million gal/day). There are 7.48 gallons per cubic foot.  Rounding out the conversion, the data center will use 4.64 cubic feet per second of water flow out of the 6 cubic feet per second one usually finds every August.   Obviously 1.36 cubic feet are left to fulfill all the needs downstream…  The flow levels back in 2003 would leave dry river bed.

That is just not right. And Ken Grant (of course) makes no mention of that….

Let us talk air quality.  Currently there is no radon in the air over Newark and Northern Delaware.  There will be a lot. Radon as you know, kills. Currently there are no particles raining down on Newark Proper.  These particles cause cancer… There will be a lot.. So these people that Ken Grant dismisses will be wheezing, coughing, hacking, and spitting up blood.

It is estimated that now after facts have matriculated into the community of Newark proper, that 98% of its residents are against the power plant.  One is certain, that as these health facts get matriculated as well, that would be a guaranteed total…. For who wants to die a needless painful death?

So when Ken Grant calls 98% of Newark’s citizens who are sincerely worried about dying prematurely, ” a small group of very sincere but very wrong people”, perhaps he is correct in his assumption but just needs to turn that designation…  the other way around…..

It is very tiny minority of the the Koch Brothers’ minions who deserve the ridicule and derision, not normal hard working Americans, who loved Newark so much, they bought a home here…..

In an overwhelming vote of no confidence aimed directly at the leadership of UD President Harker, the entire faculty Senate (minus 8 abstentions due to diarrhea), voted against the killing of all babies under 2 years of age residing in Newark…(due to lung cancer in their future)

It is nice to be able to believe in the University of Delaware again, even if not the president….( though it was getting hard there with all the dead end policies that Harker has led this school down the last several years….. ruining the atmosphere for alumni at Delaware sports events, eradicating the track team, and now, putting a toxic smokestack in the heart of Downtown Newark.)

Let that vote sink in….

43 to………… NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody. I mean nobody, wants this power plant that Governor Markell, and the Delaware Chamber of Commerce is trying to ram down Newark’s throat…

43 to…………….NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

I was talking to someone who was in favor of Common Core, and yet a vehemently against a power plant going up in her back yard. I was able to show them that both processes were similar, and that she was at different points of the curve on the two separate topics, but they were both curves that were parallel and would end the same……

I got this great idea off of Norquist and pulled out a napkin where we were eating…….

Famous Napkin

The x axis stands for truth… as in what we know about a topic goes from zero to infinity, and the y axis represents our feelings of favorability towards the project as we learn more…..

As you can see,  when someone says… “a data center” we have no opinion at first…  We are at (0,0)  As we learn of jobs,  taking up a brownfield spot,  helping out the university by educating engineers,  putting topmost technology into our home, Newark Delaware, as well as selling power to the grid, our favorability towards it rises….  Yeah we could use all those things.

But then as we learn more, our favorability sours.   WHAT!  248 MEGAWATTS!!!!!  Excessive pollution.  Dangerous pollution,  for 75 years, very loud noise.  Huge cancer signatures around gas turbines. poisoning water, digging new gas lines through wildlife areas from Hockessin. A 24/7 operation.  The TDC was to sell the power plant, not the power plant being there for the TDC.  We sour. Something else, almost anything else could still give us the positives, without the negatives.   All those negatives were hidden and still would be, if citizens hadn’t ferreted them out.  There was never any plan to mention them if at all, until absolutely necessary…..

We lose favorability based on how much we know…  So those still supporting it, even Al Mascitti (unless he changes his mind while on vacation), aren’t more stupid than the rest of us… in fact, they are exactly like us, back when we were at that same point on the learning curve… Instead of bemoaning that TDC supporters are jack-stupid, educate them…  Then, after they’ve been educated, if they didn’t change their mind, it was not because they are jack-stupid.  It’s because they are sinister.  But really, when it comes to dying, very few people are really sinister. It’s really all about knowledge…..

This is exactly the same with Common Core!… This person with whom I was in this discussion,  is a member of the Delaware Chamber of Commerce and she was at the milktoast breakfast thrown at the Hotel Dupont where the Grand Poobah of the national Chamber of Commerce came in to elevate support for Common Core.  One assumes the Grand Poobah would know what he is talking about… Alas, he is a common man. He is no expert.   Because really, very few people there are privy to the facts.  You readers happen to be  far more privy to what Common Core is really about, because you have seen it here, with your very eyes, and are certainly quite capable to make up your mind yourselves…

I assured my friend, that when I knew as little about Common Core as she did, I too believed in it. Of course it makes sense to have standards the same across the country.  Of course it makes sense to raise the bar so students can’t loaf as much as they do now I thought… Of course it makes sense that if we don’t teach our children well, then the jobs will go to those nations which do teach their children well.  Of course it makes sense to pay those teachers who do well more, and to weed out those who’s real calling is obviously not teaching…   of course it makes sense to train teachers better, instead of throwing them into a classroom and saying:  Good luck, here you go…

But none of those are true I found out as I learned more… I learned that poverty is what makes students not perform well, otherwise we are all born equal… I learned that if you give someone a harder test who is relatively impoverished, they will flunk it worse than they flunked an easier test their society wouldn’t provide the necessary safety net to  enable them to study.  I learned that Common Core was all about money and politics.  I learned that Common Core was the brainchild of a mad scientist, David Coleman. Not a group of top educators.  I learned that Common Core actually shut out teachers, and was made with one goal: to make more money. When teachers objected, they were summarily dismissed.  I learned that it was getting rid of Shakespeare, and subbing in text on how to install a ceiling fan.  I learned that students in all of Delaware’s pilot programs were tuning out of Common Core subjects, saying they learned that stuff 5 years earlier.   I learned from inside the DOE that in the Common Core pilot classes of 2013, every pilot class had depressed scores.  I learned that this administration, co-oped the favor of the teacher’s union, whose leadership jumped in with both feet, and now the rank and file who see Common Core up close, have said loud and clear, they have no confidence in this administration’s roll out..  I learned that grown up professional adults, most of America’s leadership, could not pass a third grade math test.  IT is that hard!…  I learned that though the test is impossibly hard, but the standards will not even include 8th grade algebra, or trigonometry, or geometry, or pre-calculus, or calculus, all of which are offered now.  I learned the meat of Common Core is a crock of shit. Basically.

My friend is looking at me now with a dumb-ass deer expression…  sort of like… “Gee, I’m a dumb-ass deer…. I wonder what I should do now….”

“But, but, but, none of that can be true,”  she blurted out.. ” I was at the meeting with the Grand Poobah..  None of this stuff was mentioned. Common Core is our future… It is good, It is necessary for this nation……”

All I simply said was this:  “And on the power plant they didn’t tell you about the carcinogenic radon and sulfuric acid that would be dropping on your lawns, pets and cars, or the horrendous noise that never stops, or the amount of cancer rares that go up because of a power plant in your back yard, did they?…  And… when did you find out how big the 248 MW power plant really was?  That didn’t grow on you, you know… That was planned from day one… And…You only found out because other people told you.  Just like with Common Core, you need to see what other people are saying about it instead of taking the official side, and then make up your own mind…”

“I need to learn more about Common Core”, she said….

And if you dear reader still think Common Core is all good, then so do you……

=====

As an after thought, it struck me how this pattern has played out rather often since Markell’s second term began…..   Kinder-Morgan, Common Core, Delaware City expansion, Coastal Zone eradication, Charter School expansion.   Always a very dark undercurrent that only benefits the top 1% at the expense of 99% of the rest of us… It is sugar coated, given the Editorial Board approval, rushed in secret through the GA, where any dissent is squashed by Pete Schwartzkoph and Valerie Longhurst, and the signature gets applied, and commemorative pens are then handed out….   And it bears mentioning that in the first term there was also Fisker…. and Bloom… How much are we paying for Bloom right now with each electric bill?  How much did we pay for Fisker?

Well if you still think Common Core is good… do some reading…   If you don’t do your reading, (and who has time) you should not give it your support, but instead, … say you prefer the current system until you have time to find out more….  Because as the graphs above show, if you state your opinion too early… as you continue to hear more and  learn, you will be forced to change your mind…….

Thursday it was released that 200 pounds of Sulfur Dioxide was accidentally released from the Delaware City’s PBF refinery..

It was allegedly caused by a mechanical malfunction at the facility …..  Sulfur Dioxide when mixed with H2O creates Sulfuric Acid. Air is full of water.  So are our lungs.

Bloomsberg reported on October 9, 2013 that Delaware City was postponing its Sulfur Dioxide fix till late 2014.  The refinery, which was initially expected to do the work as part of maintenance that month (October 2013), was halting its replacement of an exchanger on the sulfur unit, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t to be made public. … Work was pushed up one year to October 2014.

Had that work been done in a timely fashion, the Thursday’s reported release would never have occurred……..

According to Bloomsberg’s sources,  a coker, crude unit and hydrocracker, a hydrogen plant and desulfurizer,  were all originally scheduled for maintenance upgrades last fall.  Upon receiving costs estimates it was decided to split the job up to cover two fiscal cycles, and the desulfurizer maintenance was pushed to the next fiscal year.  It was known by upper management that this would necessitate a release of SO2 because of  accumulations caused by the outdated equipment. Another release is tentatively planned for September, just before work started.

Due to wind conditions, the only Delawareans affected would be those downwind.  Only 1713 people live downwind from Delaware City’s gas crackers.   853 men, 860 women.

The average amount of SO2 from an oil burning plant, is 12 pounds per MWh….   Natural Gas is a hundred times less. About one percent of oil and that amounts to .12 pounds or 1 ounce per MWh…  Therefore 200 pounds of SO2 released is equivalent to 19 hours running at a one megawatt hour oil fired plant running full kilter… At a 248 MWh natural gas plant (TDC) running full kilter 24/7, it would be the equivalent of… (248 MWh X .12 lbs SO2/ MWh ) = 29.76 pounds of SO2 per hour….

So on one hand this may not seem like much… The 200 pound release is only the equivalent of  6.7 hours of a natural gas fired power plant running at full steam night and day….  precisely 6 hours and 43 minutes…. less than most of us sleep per night….

On the other hand that is quite a bit.  The Newark power plant will spew out a level of what  this report implies, is considered a toxic release requiring DNREC oversight,  FOUR TIMES EVERY SINGLE 24 HOUR DAY!

President Harker wants to build a power plant in town that will spew out four times this toxic release at Delaware City, every single day.

Governor Markell wants to build a power plant in town that will spew out frou times the toxic release at Delaware City, every single day.

The Delaware Chamber of Commerce wants to build a power plant in town that will spew out four times the toxic release of Delaware City every single day.

The Hammer and Nails Club wants to build a power plant in town that will spew out four times the toxic release of Delaware City, every single day.

Sam Latham of the AFL-CIO, wants to build a power plant in town that will spew out four times the toxic release of Delaware City, every single day.

Everyone wearing green and holding green signs, is looking the other way when it comes to having this toxic release, occurring ongoing in the heart of Newark, every, single day…..

Whereas only 1713 people due to geography could be even remotely affected from the Delaware city spill,  41 times that amount or 70,500 will inhale 4 times that amount every single day, because of someone’s brilliant idea of building a 248 MWh plant right inside the center of town…

Pure brilliance.  President Harker.  Pure brilliance.

And back date it to apply to all transactions starting after midnight, January 1, 2011….

A giant 248 MW power plant is going into a residential neighborhood.  That is unheard of.  We know Rowan jumped out of a similar deal.

Every human being in Delaware should demand (because they will soon breathe the toxins) that the UD lose its proprietary status, and that we find out what is really going on.

They were up front with Rowen and Rowen said no thank you… The University of Delaware is sitting on valuable information required by all to make a balanced decision, without which a gigantic lifetime mistake could occur….

Obviously they want that mistake to occur…

So, to fight back, they should lose all future protection from FOIA requests…  All it takes is a change of one sentence…..

A statement (not a rhetorical but an action that has grave consequences),  needs to be emphasized:  that if you want of fuck with the citizens of the town of Newark, it will cost you.  It WILL cost you…..

Here: John and Paul….

04/15/2014
Long Title: AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 29 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO DEFINITION OF PUBLIC BODY.
Synopsis: This bill would include the President’s Offices of the University of Delaware as being defined as a public body, and would therefore serve to open it to all FOIA inquiries.  Furthermore this bill would reach back to  midnight January 1, 2011 and require the University to legally fulfill all FOIA requests for information dating henceworth that period in time.

Section 1.  Amend § 10002(h), Title 29 of the Delaware Code  by making insertions as shown by underlining as follows:

(h) ”Public body” means, unless specifically excluded, any regulatory, administrative, advisory, executive, appointive or legislative body of the State, or of any political subdivision of the State, including  the University of Delaware, but not limited to, any board, bureau, commission, department, agency, state university, committee, ad hoc committee, special committee, temporary committee, advisory board and committee, subcommittee, legislative committee, association, group, panel, council or any other entity or body established by an act of the General Assembly of the State, or established by any body established by the General Assembly of the State, or the University of Delaware, or the Presidents Office of the University of Delaware, or appointed by any body or public official of the State or otherwise empowered by any state governmental entity, which:

and… Section 1.  Amend § 10002(l), Title 29 of the Delaware Code

(i) ”Public body,” “public record” and “meeting” shall not include activities of the University of Delaware and Delaware State University, except that the Board of Trustees and all offices of the President of the University of Delaware and the Board of Trustees and all offices of the President of the  Delaware State University shall be “public bodies,” and that the University and University documents relating to the expenditure of all private and public funds shall be deemed “public records,” and each meeting by the President or of the full Board of Trustees of either institution shall be deemed a “meeting.”  This action will apply retroactively to January 1, 2011.

We may all die of asphyxiation, but we won’t die without fighting back……

In what turns out to be nothing more than a get-rich-quick scheme, literally hundreds of thousands will die from this action…

The people of Newark have the last say; but only if they exercise it. If they do nothing, BIG BUSINESS always wins, because it can buy the political clout it needs. It can’t control you…..

Respond and contact those at the end of the video. Everyone needs to help here. 75 years of pollution is a long time… Almost one third as old as is the United States of America….

If anything is clear over how things have moved with the establishment of the power plant across the public’s eyes these past nine months, it is how the Newark Public is being manipulated by outside interests.

When one finds why they are being manipulated, they must first ask why?   Why did you not tell us the truth up front in the beginning?

In the beginning for those who an still remember, there was  just a Data Center, that to insure constant coverage, would have a small auxiliary clean natural gas fired do-generator to supply electricity to the facility in case of power failure….

Why were we lied to?

The answer is simply, like the reason anyone lies, ever, that if they told us the truth they would never get the power plant opportunity.

The truth is that the largest gas fired generator in the state will be built 200 yards away from someone’s back yard.  The truth is that one of the largest polluters in the state, will be within a mile of a University of over 15,000 students.  The truth is that  two miles from Delaware’s largest single output smokestack,  lies a Main Street that has just seen over 100 million in renovations, both public and private… The truth is, that the air of Northern New Castle County, will now be dominated entirely by  a burner larger than any single burner  in Millsboro, or Foxmoor, or anywhere else in the country….  This one  is right in the middle of town.

So of course if the truth had been told, it wouldn’t pass…. Duh….   Why are you shocked, shocked you were lied to?

Silly Newark people.  What did you expect?  Openness?  Honesty?  C’mon.  Were you all just born yesterday?

So you lost two close fought battles….

The US lost Pearl Harbor and Subic Bay,  but signed the Armistice in Tokyo Harbor.  The Allies lost all mainland Europe, but ended the war in the middle of Berlin…   So don’t even think this is over.  The last meeting in Newark showed some interesting opportunities….

One.  Those supporting the power plant have used all their resources.  Ads,  mysterious PAC’s,  back-room deals,  imported activists,  bribes?, sponsors, promoters,  all the best that money can buy… and they have just barely squeaked by with very narrow victoreis…

Two. These opponents are just getting warmed up.  At their advantage is the feeling  of a whole city, a whole county that will have to breathe the results of this decision for 75 years hence…   The information, or truth, is on the side of the opponents.  That this will be killing you seventy five years from now, is a very effective argument…  It is an argument that seems distant if glimpsed from far away, but one which grows in importance with every step closer to that mark… Except for 50 assorted jobs,  all  short-termed economic benefits will be gone in 3 years.

Here is where it stands.

Short Term Gain at the price of Long Term Suffering….

Fact: if Newark does choose to go forward with this power plant it will pay for its consequences for the rest of its life. Liken it to this scenario…..

Imagine two teenagers exploring each  other for the first time.  Making out, the usual things, and  trying to figure if they want to go all the way….  Hormones are flowing and the thought processes have pretty much been shut up into a box….  They decide to go for it, and take off their clothes, and jump into the bed and continue making out… Then just as one of them swings over and gets on top,  the other see the rash….

Newark is there now; it has just seen the rash…  (It’s in the images up top, if you still don’t “get it”.)  The cost of going forward will, like the rash,  last forever.   Question is, will just the sight of it dissuade Newark from continuing its momentary psychological fantastical rush? Don’t know. Can’t say.  That is up to Newark.   But there are a lot of people out there in society today who are presently wearing rashes and wish they weren’t, is all I will say….

But it should not be lost that the opposition has put up everything they have, and still it barely came out of the last confrontation with more than  a draw.  Once it truly becomes apparent to those locals deciding this issue, that they will become Newark pariahs if they continue supporting TDC, the decisions currently being made will fall in line differently. Right now to those deciding, that vision is not crystal clear. If the power plant opponents are truly serious, it would seem that a door to door campaign with red signs in hand, handing out the charts above, and asking permission to put signs in each property owner’s yards,  would be their most effective weapon towards keeping that lifetime rash away from Newark….

Call it a public education campaign if you want,   but if so  it is one that bypasses our media-whores too afraid to turn away free cash for each trick they get to turn….

The highest “crude” death rate in Washington State, is in Centralia, home to a 248 MW co-generator fueled by natural gas.  At 15.2, it is twice the Washington State average of 7.2, and there next highest locality that comes closest, is a 13.8

is there a correlation between air pollution and death?  Why yes, there is.  Call up the hospital and ask the on-duty staff if they are aware of any correlation between high peak air pollution days and emergency room heart attack visits.  (They are; they joke about it like we joke about a full moon.)

The correlation was documented by a study on mice in 2007.

“The results showed that mice whose lungs were injected with a saline containing particles smaller than 10 micrometres, one tenth of the thickness of a strand of hair, had a shorter bleeding time and shorter plasma clotting times and increased levels of various clotting agents such as fibrinogen and factor X.”

Basically the particles slice and dice up your lungs, causing bleeding which caused both clots and elevated blood pressure from all the elevated levels of clotting agents being dispensed to the site….  One chemical 24 hours later peaked 15 times higher than normal.  The excess clotting agents are necessary, they stop the bleeding, a bleeding that is caused by the fine particular matter dispensed out of smokestacks when one burns natural gas. Those micro-clots then go traveling throughout your circulatory system.

Another study correlated air pollution levels geographically with heart attacks, and found a very high correlation.  Quite often a hot heart attack spot could be where two interstate highways come together

Washington State Death Stats

It is apparent that rushing into building a Data Center will create additional death in and around the town of Newark from particulate matter being dumped on houses just feet away from the smokestack…

Die If You Want To You Innocent Puppetc

Courtesy of Delaware Way

Not even Centralia, Washington had houses right next to a dispersion device.  Delaware’s project is a very poorly planned venue; one that hinges on the expectation that those residence in Devon and other close neighborhoods, would just accept their death warrant with no push back.

Make no mistake. If the power plant begins to spew, you will die.

It is rapidly becoming apparent.  None of the alleged support for the power plant is local.   It is all out of New York.  The websites in favor of the power plant are going dark; the ones against the power plant are putting forth information daily.  A private PAC appeared out of nowhere to throw Newark’s election and now has disappeared.. Had it occurred under a hostile administration, the election could have been nullified, because the filing was late the night before the election.

Jack Markell, while proposing to clean up water and charge you for it,  has no problem dirtying your air, because Wall Street is paying for it.  The main office of the group, (they can’t tell you its really in New York) is listed as a Mail Box etc in West Chester Pennsylvania…

Anyone who has every worked on a  Hollywood live location knows exactly what is going on.  It’s all fake, and is being created for one shot.

You are supposed to think that jobs will come to Newark if you sign on to this plant.   Perhaps very few.  The Alabama contractor slated to begin work up here, has most of his people already hired. None of the money will actually land in Newark,. But the carcinogens will.  When finished it is like a giant exhaust pipe funneling carcinogenic waste our of the Bakkan Shield, right into your house.

This fake organization, whose website is still as it was in November, featuring Jack’s speech in spot one( he played his part well, didn’t he),. wants to be able take the exhaust from the data center stack and scatter it over your town.  For them it is a return on investment…. They live in New York. Why should they care about you?

With the recent NOAA notification that we are now in an El Nino year, it would be very wise to remember the El Nino year of 2002-3 when Delaware had mandatory water restrictions… Imagine how much more severe that becomes with an additional 6 million gallons a day siphoned out of our streams and water table to be funneled straight into the data center… That water of course will have a priority over water headed to your houses..  It has to; the data center can’t shut down, ever.

Don’t worry.  Those in New York will still be able to buy their bottled water by using their return on the investment this power plant will net them.
