Everyone who has followed me knows I’m always right on the market. I’m not putting up links but you can go back through the archives and verify all you want.
If you have a mutual fund that allows you to switch from stocks to secured investments like Treasury’s, put the order in now. The smart money is starting to pull out now and the stocks will start dropping and keep falling as long as the switching continues….
Here is the reason….
Mitch McConnell…. “It’s pretty clear to me that the sequester is going to go into effect…Read my lips: I’m not interested in an 11th-hour negotiation.”
The most liberal estimate shows that when the sequester goes into effect the GDP will lose .5% over the course of the year. This first Quarter will be positive which means the next three quarters will be in negative territory.
The exact same thing occurred in 1937. It is usually lumped in by history as a continuation of the Great Depression but two quarters of 1936 looked like our two quarters just after the election this time… As 1937 opened, just as 2013 opened, prospects were rosy that the worst was behind us. Unemployment had dropped from 25% to 14% with manufacturing output rising to its 1929 levels, and then, …. with budget cutbacks to reign in spending, very similar to sequestration today, unemployment shot back up to 19%…. If the same trend holds, our unemployment should rise to 9% again before it stabilizes and then fall slowly, ever so slowly, back to 7% it is today, quite possibly as late as 2016.
Manufacturing then cut back 37% returning work output to 1934 levels.
Finally on April 2, 1938 Roosevelt sent a new large-scale spending program to Congress, and received $3.75 billion which was split among PWA, WPA, and various relief agencies. Other appropriations raised the total to $5 billion in the spring of 1938, after which the economy recovered.
Unemployment never recovered its 1936 level until the US went into WWII….
The Stock Market which had climbed back to its 1929 high as of February of 1937, lost 50% of its value by February 1938…..
Put bluntly, with sequestration, there is zero chance stocks will rise, and a 99% chance they will fall. Doesn’t it make sense to sell out now, and put that money into the safe keeping of Treasury Bonds?
The Republicans seem jubilent they are causing it this collapse. I guess afterwards there will be no question in any reporters or any American’s mind, that Democrats and Keynes were always right, and Republicans and Milton Friedman were always dead wrong.
If you don’t do what I said, and get out now, don’t come crying to me… You were warned!
Not really. But think. If the NRA had helped us keep guns out of the hands of criminals, instead of proposing that guns could be sold and bought by anyone with no questions asked….
This wouldn’t have happened.
Call your Senators and Congressmen. Tell them to list the NRA as a terrorist group.
It might make their day!

With Sandy’s approach, words of warning went out to all campaigns.. Get your big signs down for the storm. Feel free to put them up after the storm blows by. Everyone got an email.
Democrats were in full force, and in New Castle County, not one Democratic sign was left standing… By noon all were stored for safe keeping…
There were no libertarian candidate’s signs. As dedicated citizens, the libertarian team scoured the county and by noon, their signs were all stored for save keeping.
The one Jill Stein sign I’d seen, was gone. Secured by the Green Party….
In fact the only signs up as darkness approached, were those of Alex Pires, which is understandable, it being a one man operation, and those of the Republican line up, which apparently has even fewer supporters.
It looks like Kansas, at intersections now, with only Republicans contesting a one man operation….
If the Green Party and Libertarian party can mobilize faster than the Republican, it is time to stop calling the Republican Party a “major” party.
Even the Wizard of Oz had more going for it than today’s Delaware Republicans, who with their daily bumbles are rapidly creating a new definition of the English word pathetic.
This is post number 2000.
The only real significance is it is 150 posts more than where Tommywonk stopped exactly one year and fifteen days ago…
If some future historian looks back, I can only guess they may kindly make some note of the quality of thought that underlies these efforts, but my guess, is no one will ever notice…
Irregardless, as long as the urge to put thoughts down for others continues, we will go on. As usual, with no goal, no direction, and no ulterior motive. Probably upon reflection, my biggest surprise, right here, right now … is that I still enjoy it so much, and can’t wait to jot my thoughts down, click the button, and send them off to where ever cyberspace and the vast internet ocean, lets them drift….
For each of you who have become regular over the years, … thank you friend…
Jockstrap….
I just couldn’t help but notice he supports almost every Johnson. (Even ones with Swiss spellings… Johansen ….)
Lol…

It is funny how so much time and effort is spent determining who will run on the Republican side of the Presidential race, when that whole contest is made meaningless by this one chart…..
Republicans don’t want you to see this chart. Democrats simply lack the capacity to understand what it means…..
It means that if you want efficiency, then lowering taxes is good. That creates efficiency. But if you want jobs, then raising taxes is good, because that creates jobs…
The standard Republican argument against this: “That is bunk. Everyone knows cutting taxes grows jobs….” (end of argument).
What never gets done, except in the bottom comment sections of well meaning blogs, is the proper rebuttal….
If that is bunk, explain how and why history itself proves it otherwise?
And alas, they cannot answer that, because they are wrong… Low taxes do not create jobs. Higher taxes do….
Look for yourself.
“I’m starting to think we really ticked off Mother Nature somehow, because we’ve been getting spanked by her for about a year now,” he said while grabbing some coffee at a convenience store…..
OF COURSE YOU DID, DUMMY. YOU VOTED FOR REPUBLICANS!
