What if McDonald’s, Wal*mart, Papa John’s, and other companies whose wealth is made off the backs of sub-standard wages, had to pay for each one of their employee’s food stamps and Medicaid costs?

It would be similar to our Unemployment tax… Essentially we ( the State of Delaware’s Employment Services) would state that you had “x” amount of employees on Medicaid and Food Stamps and therefore you must pay this higher premium so we can care for them…. To someone like Costco, they would say since you had very few employees on Medicaid and Food Stamps you get to pay a much lower rate into the pool…

As with unemployment, companies who cost the state more by firing with impunity, pay a higher rate into the fund than companies whose employees very rarely ever have to file for unemployment benefits…

Apply the same to Medicaid and Food Stamps…..  it is simply putting the cost to society into the right account.  Something accountants have to do all the time when going through a companies books….

There are people out there who swear they still believe evolution and assert that all evidence of dinosaurs is a lie…Despite giant bones staring them in the face, to them, the world was created in 6, 24-hour periods. Oh, yeah. And there are still people out there, who still insist upon believing that smoking doesn’t cause lung cancer, therefore everyone should be allowed to smoke whenever. Oh, yeah. There are still people out there who believe NASA faked the moon landing, that we still hold aliens at Roswell, and that finding out whether Bigfoot is or isn’t real, should be a national obsession.

Oh, yeah. And at one time, there were people out there who put all their faith into the “Jones” of Jonestown, who to their death, followed David Koresh of Waco, or who chose death to follow the guy through Heaven’s Gate, who said the Hale-Bopp comet was a giant spaceship coming to take them away……

But it’s not all history. Today there are actually people out there who still believe, that wearing one’s pants down off their ass, or wearing ones baseball cap sideways, or wearing a hoodie saying “Hoyas” over their head while standing on a street corner in 100 degree weather, makes them look cool and attractive. People can be silly in their beliefs at times.

This is called the “Goober” effect. The title comes from a character on that old Andy Griffith television show, which portrayed the life of a North Carolina sheriff and his sleepy little town. Goober was a goofy looking dummy who was trotted out occasionally by the writers of that show for comic effect… Basically he was a character who reveled in the fact that he was dumb numbskull and played it to the hilt to garner attention for himself…. There were no facts to back up his assertions, yet he stated everything boldly, pretended he knew what he was talking about, and we who knew the truth, all laughed at him…

It is with similar glee that I chuckle over Delaware’s own 33rd district representative’s assertion that we need to exit the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative…. because Global Warming is a myth.

Obviously the joke is on him. He, doesn’t believe in global warming…. Now this argument is so old, and the evidence is so overwhelming, that like those who argue against evolution, or against the citizenship of one black president, one must suspect them doing so for nefarious reasons, perhaps maybe ones as simple as “getting attention”…

When someone raises their hand in science class and states that he doesn’t believe in the science behind evolution because God is the Creator, he obviously is not commenting upon the science behind the origin of his species; he is commenting upon his relationship with God…

Therefore when someone who is elected to represent their whole body of constituents also takes a stand that flies opposite to accepted common knowledge against those with impeccable credentials, we must realize he too is not actually commenting upon the science behind Global Warming; he is commenting upon his relationship to “those, he serves”…..

What Republican Harold Peterman is really telling us, is this: “I, like the Caesar Rodney Institute, am bought and paid for by Carbon Fuel Interests. I serve them. No, I’m really not interested in truth, or what’s right, or what’s good for you.. You get cancer; it’s your fault, shit happens. You lose your home to rising seas; it’s your fault, shit happens… Your child dies before you because of benzene pollution; it’s your fault, shit happens.”..

Therefore, like every other dummy who takes a position in any field that goes against common sense, or the facts on the ground, we have to look at who is pulling that dummy’s strings, who is supporting them and egging them on, and at what those people’s interests are, and at how those people’s actions WILL affect our daily lives…..

Then… we have to dismiss their buffoonery attempts at notoriety as being just that.
