Whew, Dodged A Bullet. Not As Bad As Last Summer!

Following rapid ice loss in the first half of July, the pace of seasonal ice retreat slowed the rest of the month partly due to the return of a stormy weather pattern over the central Arctic Ocean. The timing of melt onset for 2013 was in general unremarkable. Ice extent remains below average on the Atlantic side of the Arctic, and near average in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, and along the Eurasian coast…..

Thanks for the email and the pictures.  Here is a first view of the F1 tornado that hit north of Glasgow.  A funnel cloud was reported from onlookers several blocks away, but those in the path did not see it.  One onlooker looked out his window and said he saw lots of debris flying over his neighbors house.  Another reported it came without warning,   He heard the train, and yelled for everyone to get in the basement. By the time they got there (20-30 seconds) it was quiet.

The F1’s path was very short. (thin yellow line in image above) Damage was minimal. For example, there were zero broken windows. Most of the damage was natural, ie uprooted or damaged trees due to the wet earth. A couple of siding pieces were off, and some shingles didn’t make it… We were blessed.

This video shows how it looke from ground zero. Not too scary.

However, it should be noted by all involved, that the confirmed F1 touched down in Rep. Jacques district. It is an omen and it must be heeded tomorrow afternoon in the House Chambers of the General Assembly.

I missed this on Sunday.

And what are today’s birds telling us? The Audubon Society estimates that nearly 60 percent of 305 bird species found in North America in winter are shifting northward and to higher elevations in response to climate change. For comparison, imagine the inhabitants of 30 states — using state residence as a proxy for species of American human — becoming disgruntled with forest fires and drought and severe weather events, and seeking out suitable new habitat.

Despite what Republicans say:  man-made global warming is here.   The birds are telling us. No wonder the Delaware head of the Republican Party, John Sigler is shooting pigeons in boxes….

In a discussion about global warming, one John Galt gave this piece of enlightenment….  this is dug up here for historical reasons and it is well worth remembering the arguments of the  past as we now investigate such problems as raising taxes, protecting social security, and increasing labor participation against the same faulty reason….

It is a walk down memory lane, accompanied by knowing we were right on the issue of global warming, and Republicans were very, very, very, very, very,  very…. wrong….

=======================================================================================

by John Galt  July 17, 2009.

Dear  Frieda:

All of your claims are wrong and you know it or your an idiot.

Global temperatures peaked in 1998, a fact that contradicts the assertion that man’s continued pumping of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is making the planet hotter. This was not predicted by the climate models that say we’re headed for a warm period.

Nor can anthropogenic global warming be explained when introduced into the argument is the fact that 1934, when far fewer carbon-spewing machines existed than we have today, is the hottest year on record.

Global warming alarmists invested heavily in convincing everyone that 1998 was the hottest year and 2006 the third warmest. After correcting for faulty data, NASA had to backtrack.

At the same time NASA made the correction, it also reported that six of the top 10 hottest years are from a period before 90% of the 20th century growth in carbon emissions occurred

Researchers at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center admitted that “sensor drift” in the satellite monitors used to measure sea ice caused them to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 193,000 square miles. That’s a significant area roughly the size of California.

In a column titled “In 2008, a 100 Percent Chance of Alarm,” New York Times columnist John Tierney exposes the Chicken Littles for what they are — opportunists and alarmists who in this new year “will bring you image after frightening image of natural havoc linked to global warming.” Inconvenient truths and scientific fact will be ignored.

A case in point cited by Tierney was when Arctic sea ice last year hit the lowest level ever recorded by satellites. It was hardly a blip in Earth’s geological history, but Tierney noted how “it was big news and heralded as a sign that the whole planet was warming.”

Less dramatic and newsworthy was the announcement that the same satellites also recorded that the Antarctic sea ice had reached the highest level ever. But then, polar bears allegedly drowning and icebergs breaking away are good theater.

We’re told the Larsen B ice shelf on the western side of Antarctica is collapsing. It is warming and has been for decades. But it comprises just 2% of a continent that otherwise is cooling.

In the same week Gore received his Nobel Peace Prize, the respected scientific journal Nature published a paper you probably didn’t hear much about. It concluded that global warming had a minimal effect on hurricanes.

In fact, after Katrina, hurricane watchers have had trouble getting as far as the letter “K”.

“The last couple of years have humbled the seasonal hurricane forecasters,” says Max Mayfield, a former director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The 2007 season was the third calmest since 1966. In 2006 not a single hurricane made landfall in the U.S.

As for temperature, Tierney reports how British meteorologists made headlines predicting that the buildup of greenhouse gases would make 2007 the hottest year on record. After 2007 was actually lower than any year since 2001, the BBC still proclaimed: “2007 Data Confirms Warming Trend.”

That must be why in January 2007 some $1.42 billion worth of California produce was lost to a disastrous five-day freeze. A few months earlier Gov. Schwarzenegger signed the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 designed to, uh, help cool the climate.

In 2007, Australia experienced its coolest June ever. The city of Townsville underwent its longest period of continuously cold weather since 1941. Johannesburg, South Africa, had the first significant snowfall in a quarter-century.

But for greenies, it doesn’t matter what the weather actually is or what the data actually show. It’s all caused by global warming. As Canadian Greenpeace rep Steven Guilbeault explained in 2005: “Global warming can mean colder; it can mean drier; it can mean wetter; that’s what we’re dealing with.”

Let me make this as simple as possible. Greenhouse gases makes up 2% of our total atmosphere. Of that 2%, 3.62% is CO2 and of that 3.4% is caused by man, yes only 3.4% of all CO2 is man made, the rest is made by nature. Man made CO2 makes up .000024% of the atmosphere.

If they were this wrong on global warming, can they possibly be right on anything?   Can someone tell me why we even listen to them anymore when they whine?

For the most awesome replies…. it is here…..

The State Department dropped objections to the Keystone Pipeline….

Days later, the flaws are being drawn out.

“EnSys Energy has worked with ExxonMobil, BP and Koch Industries, which own oil sands production facilities and refineries in the Midwest that process heavy Canadian crude oil. Imperial Oil, one of Canada’s largest oil sands producers, a subsidiary of Exxon, was the firm responsible for the study.

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) Group – which TransCanada hired on behalf of the State Department to do the EIS. was paid an undisclosed amount under contract to TransCanada to write the statement, which is now an official government document,” “The statement estimates, and then dismisses, the pipeline’s massive carbon footprint and other environmental impacts, because, it asserts, the mining and burning of the tar sands is unstoppable.”

ERM was involved in discrediting cancer was caused by cigarettes.

Go figure.

As one progresses through life one becomes more humble.  When young, one believes it is his own actions that create his or her success.  Old age tells us it was just luck.  We see others come later, more talented, smarter, better looking, not achieving what we once did.  We have to accept we were just simply in the right place at the right time to grasp an opportunity.

Being thoughtful people, as one sees more, one ponders more.  Similarities do take place on opposite sides of the globe.  Similarities that perhaps could be random, but for them to occur in non random frequencies, belies something else might be in play.

It is with that in mind, I notice that across the red states of the United States, primarily a bastion of fundamentalist conservative theocracy, the weather is changing. Basically, there is no rain…. Secondly I have noticed that the weather in Oklahoma is every year, corresponding more and more like those dry, hot , sandy climes on the other side of our planet, which coincidentally, are also occupied by a bastion of fundamentalist conservative theocracies, practicing something very similar to Oklahoma policy but over there it is called Shara Law…

The unproven theory, one derived deeply out of the forges of possibility from quantum mechanics, is that as we evolve to think like Muslims, our weather evolves to behave like we are Muslims.

Currently there is no difference between those thought processes and actions of  legislatures of Oklahoma, and those existing in Muslim countries like Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen…

The climate is racing to catch up to the Middle East with this three year drought in Oklahoma….

As any follower of monotheism well knows, when a people sin and go the wrong way, the weather catches up to punish them.   I simply am offering that is what is happening in Oklahoma….

Finally.  The Gulf Stream is weakening.  It has gotten weaker continuously since 2004.  So much Acrtic ice has been turned into cold water, that it now flows down the Labrador Current and hits broadside into the Gulf Stream as it makes it’s way to Britain and Europe.  If it ever veers south from the impact, parts of Europe, which is further north than Baffin Island, will get the tempertatures of Baffin Island.

This weakening of the Gulf Streams current strength, causes water to build up higher on the outside of the curve, and to sink lower on the inside of the curve.  The inside of the curve is in open ocean.  It affects no one.  The outside of the curve ranges from Virginia Beach upwards to the end of Long Island.

Pictures show the Gulf Stream weakening considerably just before Sandy.

Normal Looking Gulfstream October 17 2012
weak Gulfstream November 21 2012

This means water was actually higher and that same higher water was caused by the melting of the Arctic Ice Cap. It wasn’t the actually water flowing down from the Ice Cap, but our high water was caused by the largest seasonal ice melt ever recorded.

Here is the report.

This is for real, man. This is scary.

Tommywonks First Blog Post

On the first day of Spring last year, I caught up to Tommywonk’s last numbered post: 1850. That was to be the milestone after which I decided to slow down.

Today, in little over 10 months (it seems much shorter), with this post, I now cross over the number that is exactly 500 more than his ending total.

I dread the day I again decide to pick the pace back up. (chuckle).

No Bread For You

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today designated 597 counties in 14 states as primary natural disaster areas due to drought and heat, making all qualified farm operators in the areas eligible for low-interest emergency loans. These are the first disaster designations made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2013…

The 597 primary counties designated as disaster areas Wednesday by USDA were in these states: Alabama, 14; Arkansas, 47; Arizona, 4; Colorado, 30; Georgia, 92; Hawaii, 2; Kansas, 88; Oklahoma, 76; Missouri, 31; New Mexico, 19; Nevada, 9; South Carolina, 11; Texas, 157; and Utah, 17.

The majority are Republican states.   (So..  Let’s hold up their “budget-busting” disaster aid for 3 months on high minded principle and see how they like it.)

Wheat growers in the Southern Plains have known the effects of a drought for about 120 consecutive weeks, and now their neighbors to the north have been added to the drought disaster list….

But wait.  The year is only 20 days old!  Disaster Areas? As in Hurricane Sandy?  Yes. Man-made global warming is here to stay.  It is worse than we ever imagined.  It’s not just summer anymore.

The 597 counties have shown a drought intensity value of at least D2 (Drought Severe) for eight consecutive weeks based on U.S. Drought Monitor measurements, providing for an automatic designation….

The Drought Monitor measures drought intensity on a scale from D1 to D4, as follows:

D1: Moderate Drought

D2: Severe Drought

D3: Extreme Drought

 D4: Exceptional Drought.

In 2012, USDA designated 2,245 counties in 39 states as disaster areas due to drought, or 71 percent of the United States

Because of catastrophic man-made global warming, we will pay $5 a loaf for bread. Had it not been for false learning centers lying about data and calling global warming a hoax, like Delaware’s Caesar Rodney Insititute, we could have worked to prevent this years ago…..

Delaware is primarily spared… ironically also by Global Warming.  It seems the melting ice caps are sending a lot more cold water down along the Eastern coasts and that modifies our local climate enough to cause rain.
