Republicans like to talk about fair.
Fair is relative. If the richest have to pay 35% of their income in taxes, so should the poorest… Fair is fair…
Using all the same principals of logic that argument can be turned around on its ear…..
If the income for the top 1% grew by 275% since Reagan took the bible on the capitol steps, so should the income of the bottom quintile be raised 275%… After all, fair is fair…
The more astute of you already know that that would be impossible. Someone making $16,000 in 1979 would at a 275% raise, now be at $60,000. That would be great but probably not realistic for someone employed say as a grave digger.
A more applicable way to interpret fair is fair is to peg the amount earned by a percentage at the top, to that percentage earned at the bottom…
The growth for the 20% at the bottom was roughly 18%….
So everything at the top, over 18%, gets handed over in the form of taxes.
The way to make more money is to invest wisely, and have the lowest quintile, make more money….
Or put another way, whatever it is that the percentage of the lowest quintile has of disposable income, after meeting all mandatory and necessary expenses, that same percentage should also be what the upper income gets to keep, after paying taxes.
If someone making $16,000 has $2000 left after expenses, then that same percentage (12.5%) applies to someone who earned 160 billion, and he gets to keep after taxes take their bite, all $20 million.
After all, fair is fair…
You heard it from the Republicans from both sides of the rotunda. THIS BILL WILL CREATE JOBS.
Because it was said legitimately I took it hook, line, and sinker, and said… “good, we need more jobs….”
Four hours later, it came back up. Wait, a minute, how does trimming $100 billion a year out of our economy, create more jobs?
If the Fed cuts jobs, that’s fewer jobs. Who’s going to hire them? And if you create MORE jobs with this bill, you have to hire not only all the people you’ve cut, but many more besides…. Who’s hiring?
The same people who haven’t hired anyone back since 2008? After all, what incentive does corporate America have to hire people? They’re doing fine just as they are.. In a quarter where strong second-quarter earnings from companies like McDonald’s, General Electric and Caterpillar were just the latest proof that booming profits have allowed Corporate America to leave the Great Recession far behind, UNEMPLOYMENT WENT UP!
When the US Corporations banked $1.7 trillion in profits… UNEMPLOYMENT WENT UP!!!
Not to mention, when unemployment increases as the Fed itself begins to layoff workers, there will be less spending-money in those communities that experience layoffs.
Who hires when the revenue stream is predicted to collapse?
More than likely, those making a living off these same Federal employees, will be out of work too…..
Now we got, even more unemployment….
So how can Republicans stand in front of a microphone, and say this bill is a “job creator”… “It will grow more jobs”?
Someone explain it….. please!
Remember back when you occasionally went on a blind date?
Remember especially, right here, how Republicans dissed the Tea Party right up until they trounced them and then, inexplicably fully embraced them as the change of the future?
It’s like the republicans went out on a date with Lindsey Lohan, got a piece of her, and married her the next day….
They are waking up now.
The World Cup for Women is not the only thing escaping the grasp of America… Private investment money is fleeing our nation as if the party is over and the last one left in the room, will be presented with the check. Each time a Republican insists that default on US obligations is a valid price to pay to enforce a “no tax pledge” on the wealthiest one percent, billions more flow out of our country.
Those billions, not millions, are our future jobs, going elsewhere….
It’s happening each time a Republican opens his mouth and insists that taxes on the wealthy, will NOT be part of the deficit reduction act.
In April, $67 billion flowed into our country from overseas. After all, we were recovering from the Bush Depression. Then, as the debt ceiling crises made clear that Republicans were insane in their insistence that only cuts would balance our deficit, the net outflow flipped to 67.5 Billion…
That investment is now being done overseas. Those people are getting the jobs that should have, would have been here if Republicans had acted responsibly. Ironically that is exactly the same amount $134 billion, that the Congressional Budget Office, estimated the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act would increase the deficit in 2011.
The stimulus we pumped into the economy for the entire year of 2011, was wiped out in one month, by Republicans whose scare tactics chased that much money out of our country.
Small people all know this. Democrats reward investing in the USA… Republicans reward getting your money out, and keeping your money the hell out of the USA.
It is crystal clear; there is absolutely, unequivocally no other way to see it.
If you had lived back in 1776, and decided to take up your gun, and fight back those anarchistic rabble rousers who wanted to overthrow your king and his stable system of government, you may have thought you were doing the right thing at the time. Maintaining God’s order in the universe. As each one of your musket balls found its home in an American Continental soldier’s body, you may have rejoiced that you were doing your part to bring order and decorum back into society. But…… History proved you wrong. You may have felt you were right; but you weren’t.
You weren’t.
Today, July 2011, Republicans are doing far more damage to our nation’s future, than one or two musket balls could ever cause… the loss of $134 billion in future investment. Can we afford to sit ideally by and let this self inflicted bleeding continue?
Anyone supporting the Republican party, is simply a Royalist traitor transported to today’s world.
That is fact. That is truth. That is reality. That is getting pounded in the face.
They could be nice people; they could believe in what they do; they may mean well; I certainly don’t mean to imply that they ARE bad people… But, whether they are good, bad, or indifferent, the results of their actions are hurtful. For example, I’m sure termites are fascinating creatures, amazing to study, and in their own way, admirable examples of God’s creation. But, …. we don’t allow them to take over our houses….
America: Republican just cost you $134 billion dollars… They’re not saving you money: they are bleeding you dry, dry of every penny you’ve ever earned…
But, whatever…. It’s your country and I’m just one person… You guys vote and support whoever you want; it’s no sweat off my brow. Whatever happens, I’ll survive either way.
But America needs to look at the bigger picture occasionally and realize that the only thing we got going for us is our unique, talented, and gifted people. Those same people who give hope to the world over, that their nations can, one day, be like us.
You burn that up as fuel, and all this nation’s got leftover, is ashes…….
It’s clear as day.
When you have no engine in your car, you have to put one in… When banks aren’t lending, when the private sector is incapable of spending, the government has to..
It is called deficit spending. It’s been done before. Whereas we suffered a horrible Great Depression, Sweden emerged from theirs in 1934 by using just such a Keynesian approach towards deficit spending. While America suffered through dust bowls, “Grapes of Wrath”, Hoovervilles, soup kitchens, and one out of every four workers unemployed, Sweden was thriving and its citizens were living quite comfortably.
America finally… five years later, had no choice but to follow suit after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. We too spent money we didn’t have and guess what? From 1939 to 1941, U.S. manufacturing shot up a phenomenal 50 percent!
So what happens to those people who have no choice but to work, when the government gives them a job? They spend…. soon,… more people have to work… who spend… so even more people have to work,… who spend … so even more people than the more people spending money previously, have to work. … and they spend.
Republicans clamor we need more jobs… Mike Castle even hands out a giant check he voted against! LOL.. But they are all lined up against the very engine that brought us out of The Great Depression… How silly is that?
They say… we’ll owe sooooooooooooooo much money… Hello…Excuse me? Uhhh, have you ever bought a … house? Don’t you personally owe soooooooooooooooo much money? A $200,000 dollar house cost over $455,000 by the time the last payment is made. But…… how long would it take you, forced to spend more than you currently make just to live, to save $200,000 cash just to buy that house outright?
Right…. you couldn’t…
The same principal applies to economics. If you need to spend money for jobs right now…. and don’t have it… when and where will those jobs come from?
They won’t. Duh.
Therefore when Bonini says “Delaware spends more per person than any other state, excluding Alaska and Hawaii…” and that “the No. 1 employer in Delaware is the state itself, and the number of people employed by the state has doubled in the past 12 years” … right now we should be grateful… not troubled. Because we too are making some of that money those people are spending.
When he says…. “Tough economic times have prompted people to get involved in the political process,” it’s hilarious…. Especially when you look at this… on the Republican side… THEY ARE ALMOST ALL MILLIONAIRES…. (C’mon… It’s Delaware… Even if you’re Republican you gotta laugh)…
But, when he says … “The fact that people are making tough economic decisions in their personal family lives is bringing attention to the fact that the government is not,” it shows he doesn’t understand government’s role in the economy. It unfortunately shows us all that he doesn’t either read, or understand, American history.
And… that is what makes him a dangerous person to put in as our State Treasurer. He’s a great guy, and I certainly wish him well, but now is just not right time for someone who does not understand deficit spending to be running our state’s Treasury. Thirty years from now… based on my best estimates…that will be his time.
A while back I received this comment pertaining to an alleged affair which took place a long time ago.
Now most of you tend not to worry about your sewer until something goes wrong.
But on Delaware Liberal, some comments regarding the all important character issue surrounding both Coons and Gordon has come full circle. Here are some of the comments lifted up….
Or, perhaps more simply, ask him why he was spying on her with night vision goggles. Ask him why Freebery rammed his car with hers in his driveway one night. Ask him why the threat of exposure of said affair sent him scrambling for extra settlement money for Sharon Hughes.
please remind him that he can clear up any misconceptions about his affair(s) by simply releasing the transcripts of the FBI tapes
The can of worms is opened…. Is or is not the Freeberry- Gordon connection still alive and thriving? Is or is not, the Freeberry- Gordon connection part of the increase in spending ($300,000) being blamed by Gordon on Coons? Where are the tapes and why have we not heard them if Gordon is as innocent as some of his supports portend?
This is one area where I do not have the answers. Those who do, need to put up or shut up…… But our County Government is too important to give to someone just for the reasons of personnel revenge, if that is Gordon’s motive after all?
If there is any defense of Gordon’s actions when he was with his former protege Freeberry, it needs to be posted here, right now. Otherwise, the election is Coon’s to loose…… for the simple reason we just can’t afford the uncertainty. Goons of both sides: put up…or shut up.
