If current trends continue, estimates are the Bald Eagle will be extinct by 2020.

It appears that the American Bald Eagle is picking up some type of neurotic toxin in the Athabasca Tar Fields of Canada.  Athabasca Tar Oil is obtained by pumping toxic chemicals into the bedrock to flush out thick oil.  Those toxins can then contaminate wildlife when they leak.  Mercury content in water samples has increased  by 40% from 1979 to 2009.  These  oil fields and methods are  developed by the Koch Brothers, the same organization which funds the our local  Caesar Rodney Institute.  This is the same entity that is currently pushing for the Keystone Pipeline to cross the aquifers of the Midwest thereby enabling the Koch Brothers to sell oil to America’s future enemies, most notably called out by Allan Loudell on his blog  today, as China…..

Eagle is Dying

The bird’s symptoms just showed up.  Utah is the wintering location of Bald Eagles.  Earlier this month, hunters and farmers across five counties in northern and central Utah began finding the normally skittish raptors lying, listless, on the ground. Many suffered from seizures, head tremors and paralysis in the legs, feet and wings…

The Ogden rehab center said all the sick eagles  seen suffered from encephalitis, or swelling of the brain, and many had heart damage.

Currently there are only 9,789 Bald Eagles breeding in the US.

Coupled with the mysterious die off of the Monarch Butterfly, the American Moose, and now the Bald Eagle, this makes 2013 a very cataclysmic year for traditional North American icons.

The  canary has stopped singing in the coal mine….

I’m skimming Nancy’s account of the Millsboro Vlasic Pickle delimna and my, are they in a pickle.

But some of the data given had me pause and ask questions…  Perhaps one of my more astute readers geographically closer to the problem can reassure me that what I’m reading, “ain’t really so?”

“Samples at a central location showed levels of tetrachloroethene and perchloroethene above the state’s drinking water standard, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.”

Does this mean when I eat pickles I am getting tetrachloroethene and percholoroethene in my brine?  Where would this contamination come from?  What use do these chemicals have with vinegared cucumbers?…

Nitrate was detected in several onsite wells, but the drinking water standard was exceeded in only one onsite drinking water well and two monitoring wells.

The plant sits either in or almost on city limits.  Does this mean everyone in Millsboro is drinking water, right now, right before the holidays, Christmas and all that, with family coming in to celebrate, that is potentially deemed harmful?  It certainly would imply that it is… When was the last time Millsboro’s water and wells surrounding the town, have their purity checked to deem if they were truly safe, ..or not?

In addition, lead exceeded the state drinking water standard.

How can this happen in 2013?  Drinking water?  With excessive lead?  (And we’re thinking Common Core is going to make these contaminated lead brains smarter?)  When was the last time Millsboro wells and drinking water was checked for lead?  Children live there, you know!

Other chemicals – including iron, cyanide, mercury, methyl acetate and chloroform – were found in soil samples but none present a risk to human health, DNREC officials said…

Beneficial:  Iron, … Harmful:.. cyanide! mercury!, methyl acetate! chloroform!….  Here, drink this poison.  It makes you tough, puts hair on your chest as long as you don’t drink too much…( but I’m a girl; I don’t want hair on my chest.)

Gov. Markell and other politicians have focused solely on a vacant site and jobs, and not the resources or impact on the tourist economy the area also depends on,”

For some of my western NY readers… can anyone tell me how much tourist revenue the Love Canal is currently bringing in these days?

A DNREC memo dated May 19, 1997, indicated concern about the Vlasic site.

Based on what was disclosed above….. I SHOULD “EFFIN” HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The contamination of off-site shallow domestic wells which lie north and northeast of the Vlasic facility have always been the major concern regarding the potential off-site groundwater impacts of the groundwater plume,” the memo stated.

Translated… the water table will be contaminated some day inevitably, if not done so already.  How does one pollute so much from pickles, for heaven’s sake… We EAT pickles!

Bob Wheatley, incoming public policy chairman for the Delaware Association of Realtors.

Oh, man.  Like anyone is going to believe a single thing he says is true…..

Rob Arlett, Sussex County Association of Realtors public policy chairman: “This is also about property rights,” he said. “The owners of the building have the right to sell or lease their property.”

Appropriate translation:   “Die! Die! You scurvy scum.  Haul your bones to your graves will you?  Bite off your tongues.  You got no right to live! You got no right to be healthy!  You got no right to have children without Birth Defects!   YOU ARE SCUM. POND SCUM,  YOU DON’T MATTER. YOU DON’T MATTER… NO ONE CARES IF YOU LIvE, DIE, OR MOVE. YOU ARE THE LOWEST FORM OF HUMAN EXCREMENT FOUND ON THE SEAT OF ANY PORTA-POTTY….  PROPERTY RIGHTS ARE WHAT ITS ABOUT!  NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU.  PROPERTY RIGHTS! PROPERTY RIGHTS! PROPERTY RIGHTS! PROPERTY RIGHTS! PROPERTY RIGHTS! … OUR PROPERTY RIGHTS ARE ALL IMPORTANT! YOU SCUM WHO LIVE, WORK AND DIE IN THIS TOWN… GET OUT!  GET OUT!  GET OUT OF HERE NOW!  PROPERTY RIGHTS!  PROPERTY RIGHTS!  PROPERTY RIGHTS…. NOTHING IN SUSSEX COUNTY MATTERS NOTHING NOTHING EXCEPT PROPERTY RIGHTS. PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS…. SCREW DEAD BABIES!  PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS… SCREW THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION… PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS… SCREW EVERYONE EXCEPT THOSE WHO WILL MAKE MONEY OF THIS DEAL… PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RIGHTS…..

===

As said… looking for clarification… Thanks Nancy for stirring the pot…  Never knew Millsboro had such a poisonous aquifer. And I eat pickles…

John Young alerted me to this line in the new election law…..

§ 7558. (Municipal) Election results; recounts; contests.

(a) A person certified as being elected shall not take office before the seventh day following certification of the election.

The commissioner of Delaware’s elections certified  the Newark Election on December 3rd, 2013….

December 4th, 2013    Day One

December 5th, 2013    Day Two

December 6th, 2013    Day Three

December 7th, 2013    Day Four

December 8th, 2013    Day Five

December 9th, 2013    Day Six

December 10th, 2013 Day Seven……..

On December 10th, by law, the  new mayor can be sworn in……  That is this coming Tuesday btw and today is Sunday. December 8th…

(In case you don’t know she was sworn in on December 3rd, 2013. )

The real issue is how can anyone run an election and be in such violation of state code?  Either the code is bogus, or rendered meaningless by lax enforcement, or completely ignored by our election overseers, or completely off the Commissioner of Election’s radar and whatever the law states is in another solar system to her.

How can anyone in the computer age, run and win a campaign, and get sworn in, before the law allows?

What kind of state is this, where law is routinely ignored if your position on a controversial issue, aligns  with those wealthy enough to can throw $45,000 of illegal money to throw a town’s election?

The complaint here is not so much about Polly; it is leveled precisely  the Delaware Chamber of Commerce and like groups for attempting to run things their own way, even if a Delaware law stands in their way…..

The law was broken.  Sp what are we going to do about it?

Allan and I were commenting on his WDEL blog, that Monarchs were in very short supply this year. I had seen none. Neither has he.

It brought to mind that great losses were expected this year because a census in the mountains of Central Mexico recorded millions were missing from their winter home. Since colonies like to fly together and land together, I was hoping our Monarchs were not privy to that catastrophe.

I am now worried I was right. Monarchs have always played an important part of rural people’s psyche. Seeing a Monarch, since it is so recognizable, gives one an uplift to the spirit, invariably followed by an excited voice saying, “look it’s a Monarch!”… Former President Jimmy Carter, a farmer by trade, commented on this special feeling one gets, by saying the Monarch united three nations in peace. How true.

Monarchs are personal to me. I was fortunate to have lived on two different flyways, in two different states, and well remember lining up carseats of children on the back porch to watch the parade of Monarchs steadily bob their way south. As elementary children, our very kind and thoughtful principal would break all classes to let us out onto the playground to stand in awe and silence, and watch hundreds of the King of Insects go bobbing by. They never wavered side to side; they never stopped; just kept flying one right after another.

Why are they missing? Well that is up to speculation. For you see, they being Monarchs, are mysterious, secretive. We just simply don’t know? Speculation ranges from loss of milkweed due to new development; insecticides on farm land. As a side example it was just found this year, that a new fungicide has wiped out millions and millions of honeybees. But Monarchs were so secretive, it took almost all the formative years of Allan’s lifetime before we even discovered where the Eastern Monarch rested during winter. Once discovered, it was breaking news on NBC. We now know a migration takes multiple generations coming north, and one super-generation going south, and it is through genetic code, that they pass the knowledge of exactly which field where home is. Amazing.

Anytime one hears something like this one assumes the worse, such as when one gets a message while at work that one’s spouse was ambulanced to the emergency room. “Will I see them again” is the first thought one wonders! So it is with this revelation, and probably the reaction is premature but being human nature, I will certainly wonder until confirmation comes in otherwise, if the Eastern species died out, at least the local tribe, and whether or not we will see these mysterious creatures ever again!

We are very fortunate to have Allan Loudell as our state’s prime newscaster, because of his interest in this topic, tomorrow at 12:18 (or closely approximate) he will be interviewing the prime expert in the world on Monarch butterfly migration.Dr. Lincoln Brower at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.

If you have ever said… “oh there’s a monarch” and felt a little tingle of excitement flow through your veins at the sight of it, I encourage you to set your radio to the AM side of the radio dial tomorrow at lunch, on there at at the 1150 mark, especially around 12:18. This is a lifetime, golden opportunity. Not just for enthusiasts, but they are welcome to listen too.

Perhaps we can learn there is something we can do to help… like plant milkweed. In any regard, what may be now happening is a real tragedy, one worse than the extinction of the passenger pigeon. If it is determined that it is human activity that winds up killing off this most brave of insects, a bug who quite possibly travels in its short life, further than 85% of Delawareans ever get away from home, it will be a huge blemish against our human species.

And if you happen to see a Monarch, you can report your sightings here. You can be part of something big.

Just reading about Nancy’s excellent piece on the trouble brewing in Pleasant Hills.  Not so pleasant these days it seems…

Methanol does explode with one spark in the presence of oxygen.  One explosion lifted a similar tank to these 40 feet into the air… That’s as tall as a four story building!  Or the tallest radio cell phone fake tree in Delaware.

Nancy points to another fact.  This was sneaked in without anyone knowledge.  How? Someone during holiday season put the wrong address on the permit… which was duly approved without being checked out….

Well that rung a bell.  “That was how Lehman Brothers used to operate…”  I guess not being diverted by Christmas trimmings makes one aware of how lax regulatory agencies are during that week of Christian merriment….

Anyways, intrigued.. I looked… Could there possibly be a connection?  Or was this simply a random duplicity?  Most likely a random duplicity.. for sure…. But curiosity would never be satiated, if one never looks…

Nancy reports the company with the permit is TwinCo-Romax.  The Business Week dossier states that they specialize in  the manufacture and distribution of automotive aftermarket products…

The company was incorporated in 2005 and is based in Medina, Minnesota. It has distribution centers in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as a production plant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As of August 31, 2012, Twinco Romax, LLC operates as a subsidiary of DYK Automotive, LLC.

First of September 2012?  Not yet a year…

So who is DYK Automotive?

Again the Business Week snapshot….

DYK Automotive, LLC operates as a automotive aftermarket distributor. The company offers branded and private label packaged oil, chemicals, parts, and accessories. The company was incorporated in 2009 and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee….

This appears that this Memphis run automotive business recently bought out the Minnesota based automotive business.  However on their website, the acquisition of  TwinCo- Romax takes place on August 13, 2012, not August 31, 2012.  One also sees they more recently acquired another company this past February.  February 13th, incidentally.  They took control of Robert Elgart & Son, Inc., in neighboring Philadelphia.  Robert Elgart has been servicing the automotive industry since 1948 and is a wholesale distributor of automotive supplies. The company sells primarily to medium independent automotive supply stores, as well as carwash, marine, industrial and aviation customers.

So DYK has bought up two of America’s primary markets in the automotive aftercare business in less than half a year.  Certainly those are not cash transactions.  They involve leveraged financing.

A search for DYK in Newark Delaware points to their giant warehouse on Pencader Blvd, in Glasgow, (Nancy’s backyard).  This is DYK’s fourth distribution center and the first in the Northeast.  It brags upon its location as being close to 95, and being in Pencader Plaza, I’m sure it pays zero Delaware tolls for its use of that road…. It’s trucks get off at Newark exit in Maryland, and get on at the Newark exit in Delaware.  The Pencader plant, listed as a “manufacturing and distribution center”, has been operating since late 2011.

On February 21st of this year, DYK announced the opening of its Wilmington manufacturing plant.  That would be the storage tanks in Pleasant Hills.  Ernest Felici and John Birmingham of the Wilmington, Del. office of Cushman & Wakefield were principals in the arrangements.  Cushman & Wakefield specialize in surreptitious acquisitions. . “Given the product storage, it became difficult to find municipal cooperation in our initial search. Newark, Del. provided the right combination in terms of the right building and the ability to meet local code requirements.”

If one looks the corporate roster of DYK one sees its principal is Don Youngblood, CEO and President. He is listed as having no cross relationships.  However his Vice President, Chris Crosby, does have one relationship and that is with Dobbs Management Service, LLC.

Dobbs Management, just like DYK, Cushman & Wakefield, is also based in Memphis. Chris Crosby is also Vice President of Dobbs Management. This person is connected to 3 Board Members in 3 different organizations across 5 different industries.

In his brief bio, is this statement…

“Mr. Crosby joined Dobbs Management Service in August 2005. Mr. Crosby has a combination of investment banking, strategy consulting and operations experience. He worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Lehman Brothers..”

Ah ha. and there you have it… Thought so.

The State Department dropped objections to the Keystone Pipeline….

Days later, the flaws are being drawn out.

“EnSys Energy has worked with ExxonMobil, BP and Koch Industries, which own oil sands production facilities and refineries in the Midwest that process heavy Canadian crude oil. Imperial Oil, one of Canada’s largest oil sands producers, a subsidiary of Exxon, was the firm responsible for the study.

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) Group – which TransCanada hired on behalf of the State Department to do the EIS. was paid an undisclosed amount under contract to TransCanada to write the statement, which is now an official government document,” “The statement estimates, and then dismisses, the pipeline’s massive carbon footprint and other environmental impacts, because, it asserts, the mining and burning of the tar sands is unstoppable.”

ERM was involved in discrediting cancer was caused by cigarettes.

Go figure.

You'll Come A Waltzing Matilda With Me

2012 is a record breaking year.. We guessed because the ice melt was the largest ever recorded, and broke the old record a month before the melting season ended. Right now, summer in the other half of the world, is breaking records in Australia. They even had to put a new color on the temperature chart to show temperatures over 50 degrees C…..

If you look at this global temperature list, and add 2012 to the top,(the authors have not already), you see a point I’ll drive home.

Out of the eleven hottest years ever recorded, ten have occurred since 2001…. Which means only one of the top ten hottest years, 1998, was not in the past decade…

Here is the scary part. A 3 degree rise, was deemed to be cataclysmic. The US rose 1 degree last year…. As the chart shows, up till now, rises were in the tenths of a degree.

2012 just blew everything right out of the water.

And as mentioned last summer a tongue of ice cold Labrador current penetrated the Gulf Stream, and almost turned it away from Europe; wow, that would really change things over there

And you know who is to blame? People in the Caesar Rodney Institute who said global warming was a hoax, and the Republican party of the United States of America, who prevented all proper actions that could have minimized the extent, from seeing the light of day…

So be nice. The next time someone says they are a Republican? Say: “Oh, gee thanks again for ruining the world.”

I’m sure it will make their day….

Here is what the EPA says….

Kinder Morgan Transmix Co. has agreed to pay the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency $600,000 to resolve numerous violations of federal air and hazardous waste regulations, including mixing hazardous waste with gasoline.

Keep in mind that any accident, even a tiny small one of a gallon or two, affects the entire Delaware Bay and its unique biodiverse shoreline.

Now Imagine a tanker taking a hole.

Outlined here are the violations Kinder Morgan got hit with…..

A. The illegal mixing of a RCRA hazardous waste with gasoline, and from failing to sample and test gasoline to ensure compliance with CAA emissions standards.

B. Kinder Morgan failed to comply with a number of sampling and testing requirements of the CAA and fuels regulations to ensure the environmental and quality standards of fuel they produced.

C. KMT failed to notify EPA or the State of Pennsylvania prior to storing the cyclohexane mixture, a hazardous waste, at its Indianola Transmix Facility.

D. KMT failed to perform or obtain a general waste analysis upon receiving its first shipment of the cyclohexane mixture as required

E. KMT accepted the hazardous waste cyclohexane mixture at its Indianola Transmix Facility without first obtaining a RCRA Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility Permit, and therefore violated the following federal and state hazardous waste requirement…

F. KMT produced gasoline at the Indianola Transmix Facility that was not “substantially similar” to any fuel utilized in the certification of any motor vehicle or engine sold in the United States,

G. KMT failed to collect and analyze representative samples of conventional gasoline that it produced at the Hartford Transmix Facility, in violation of the anti-dumping regulations…

H. KMT failed to collect and analyze representative samples of conventional gasoline that it produced at its Hartford Transmix Facility for the purpose of determining the sulfur content of these batches of gasoline..

Result of Kinder Morgan’s actions?

Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (Marathon) reimbursed repair costs to owners of many vehicles that sustained damage. EPA understands that KMT reimbursed Marathon for the costs that it incurred in responding to these consumer complaints.

Obviously Kinder Morgan came up with the idea that they would rid themselves of an expensive waste product by burning it off in the cars that used its gas. It was cheap and untraceable. To accomplish this, they went dark on their self testing until the product had passed through their lines…. It would have worked, and they would have gotten away with their little scheme, except…. the fuel filters clogged with the waste product, and the traces began.

So, is this the epitome of ethics we want in Delaware? Of course ethics like this exists in Texas. That’s where they filmed Dallas. But do we need them here in Delaware?

No doubt, Alan Levin was not privy to this information. He is now.

J. C Penny refused to cow to the alleged boycott by the Million Moms, part of the American Dumbass Association, and stood up today, saying it is proud to stand behind Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson….

Unlike the Koman foundation, they can do math…..

311,591,917 Americans

At 50.8% that includes  158,288,693 women….

Out of which 1 Million Moms equals…   0.6% of one measly percent…..

To the American Family Blah, Blah, Blah Organization……

“Oh, … shut…..  up.”

So, can someone tell me again, why we shouldn’t tax the rich, and instead, balance the budget on the backs of everyone else?…….

I seem to be missing that little detail where that all makes sense……
