TARP Was A Brave, Noble, and Foresighfful Act

Like him or not, the TARP plan was an amazing success. At a cost of $422 billion, it paid taxpayers back $433 billion… It made money!

Remember the other side…. The one that said “let everyone fail”? Yeah… They are pretty quite now, aren’t they?  Cockroaches under a log.

At times, government needs to intervene…. anyone who says otherwise needs voted out of office….

According to the 2012 Financial Report of the State of Delaware, there were in 2010,… 4887 people in the top 1% of Delaware’s income…  Over ten years, that number increased by 445 people.  The average AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) of just this 1% was $728,553.  if this was the average then the average times the number of people will give us the total AGI for that income bracket…

$728,553  X  4887  =  $3,560,438,511 or $3.5 billion dollars of taxable income…..

Here is a chart showing the amounts if we tax this segment additionally…. Currently top-bracketed income due for 2014 is to be taxed at a rate of 6.9%…..

2014  @ 6.9% =  $245,670,257 …

Now with additional increases in the percentage…….

.5%  = $17,802,192   new rate of 7.4%

1%  =  $35,604,385   new rate of 7.9%

1.5%=  $53,406,578  new rate of 8.4%

2%  –   $71,208,770   new rater of 8.9%

These are the amounts of revenue at our disposal, based off the 2010 data.

These rates compare to New Jersey’s at 8.97%,

Keep in mind these increases are just on the top 1%. No tax increases in this post were considered for those in the 99% category.

And please don’t feel sorry for these people having to pay more.  The  Dow Jones average is up 23.79% on the year…

Someone with $3 billion in assets acquired an income just off stocks alone, $714 million by doing nothing… It grew that much….

They certainly have a little extra cash, this year to help the state out a little…

Compare that amount to all those things now broken in the state of Delaware which get band-aids because we aren’t leaning on those sitting on this much money as we should be.

Before any knucklehead even thinks of doing away with prevailing wage, something that helps the Delaware economy, …. taxing this money pile so more stays here inside our state’s boundary must take place first.

Absolutely.

What's The Filibuster Frequency, Kenneth?

A visual reminder for our friends on the other side, exactly why this privilege is being lifted. To the uninitiated, a filibuster is defined as “the stoppage of the accomplishment of something”. If you’ve wondered why Congress is doing nothing, this chart clearly explains why. This afternoon, listen to Rick Jensen cry great big crocodile tears (boo, hoo, hoo) from 1:00 to 3:00 this afternoon (11/21/13) on WDEL. Then if you’re listening Kenneth, stay tune to that frequency of 1150am….. for beer.

Filibuster for Appointees

I have a running joke with my conservative buddies who bristle every time I bring it up… Most likely because they know it’s true.

They cite small things to try and paint a different picture, but every president has those small things he has to overcome. Washington, Lincoln, there is no exception, except maybe Calvin Coolidge who thought the Chief Executive should do absolutely nothing.  If those little tweaks weren’t there, we probably wouldn’t need an executive branch.   So when Conservatives cite the screw up of the Insurance Sign up computer system as a blemish, I ask them to compare that in scope to see if it is on the same level, as selling weapons to our arch-enemy, and funding an insurgency that Congress forbade giving money too, because the American People didn’t want it.

That of course, is their hero who stooped so low.

If one just takes economics  the greats have to be these… Obama, Clinton, Reagan, Roosevelt….

Roosevelt is sketchy.  His legacy is that he built up legislation protecting the American Middle Class to last for decades, However during his actual term they were either out of work, or fighting a war overseas.

Reagan is best known for reversing his conservative plan and raising lots of taxes along with Tip O’Neil.   That tax raise boosted the economy and got him re-elected with a landslide, so he was able to cut taxes in his latter term, which led to the recession later inherited by the first Bush.

Clinton is best known for his longest running economic expansion in the history of the United States.  He is also best know for creating something no American every thought they would see in their lifetime:  A Federal Surplus.   These two accomplishments put him very near the top.

Finally Obama.  Inherited Roosevelt’s mess, the same one Franklin faced in ’32, and in two years, had most of America back on its feet.  Roosevelt took 9 years.  Of course Roosevelt was acting blind; this president could learn from history and what didn’t work, he could simply not do.  He did this despite a depression similar in scope to the Great Depression, but because quick action was enacted, it was able to be revived soon enough to only be classified as a Recession.  A pretty amazing feat.

Over 5 years, there has been a positive increase in the number of private sector jobs every month… There has never been a month we lost jobs.  No other president, not even Clinton can boast a record like that…  Every month we’ve added private sector jobs.  A fact with which we’ve gotten so comfortable,  the stock market drops if the number of new jobs is not as much as the new jobs created the month before….

Since no other president as ever accomplished this, this would certainly put Obama up for the nomination as the best president ever….

Now consider this….   What other President do we know of … who when he came in …  Had their opponent Senate Minority Leader stand up in front of his caucus, and with a ring of reporters, say…  “We have only one goal, To make this a one term president….. “

And then…..

had that SAME person acquiesce to a deal of un-conditional surrender, that got their party “absolutely nothing“.

From “making this a one time president”   to …  “getting absolutely nothing...”

Surely this is the greatest president in our lifetimes…

Recognizing the possibility that Obamacare will not create a default of USA payments, the Republicans have tacked on a new demand.

Although Congressman Boehner has said privately he is not in favor and thinks the idea is stupid, nevertheless the House has the vote to not pass a funding bill unless it’s demands are fully met.

As Mitch McConnell stated before the Senate,  “We Republicans will not acquiesce to raising the debt ceiling unless all our demands are met in full.”

The Democrats have met all the demands but one, and that one will never pass in the Senate, nor would it get signed by the President.

Although called ridiculous by pundits, moderate Republicans, and Democrats, the Tea Party segment has chosen to default upon our debts, if Sarah Palin is not added to Mt. Rushmore.

Although the expense would be astronomical, especially adding rock to the mountain to complete her new bustline, still Republicans who feel insulted by comments made by 99% of America’s citizens, want their respect bad.

Eric Cantor boldly stated:  “An America without Sarah Palin on Mr. Rushmore, is not America.  If it is not America, there is no special reason it cannot default on debt as any other country.  If you want America to be special, and by special I mean pay its obligations on time, then we must get the commitment to place Sarah Palin on Mt. Rushmore by October 1st.”

Currently the House has enough supporters to keep key budget legislation from being passed.  The President reiterated this afternoon, that he would not deal with hostage takers, over Sarah Palin’s bust.

Ted Cruz was said he would perform another all-nighter for Sarah Palin’s benefit.  He requested that she be by his side.

“With her beside me, .. I couldn’t go to the bathroom even if I went to the bathroom…”  Fox News picked up off an open mike.

I heard from  Nancy that some dubious fact finders are trying to embarrass Markell and Democrats by raising the fact that the new data center going into Newark is NOT going to use Bloom boxes; then tsking away with their patented headshake and a :  “my, isn’t that special.”  They are trying to imply that if a new business won’t use the product being made here in Delaware, it had to be a bad idea to invest in putting that product here.

Before this gets out of control, let me explain why this isn’t so.

A data center uses tremendous amounts of power. The cost of power per year is usually equal to the cost of the initial capital investment.  Bloom Boxes do not have sufficient output.

The scale of argument being made by some on the right, could be likened to asking why a Walmart being built, won’t cool its buildings with portable window units.

Silly, right? Which is why the “Right” should stay out of arguments over its head, and should retreat back to arguing only what it knows best:   which actually, is nothing, really.

Please read Steve’s reports on Delaware’s offshoot of Homeland Security here, here and here….

We are getting our money’s worth with this bunch, that’s for sure… I wonder when they’ll let civilians drive it? I think the monster mile would be a good test track for civilians to get the opportunity….

Can you imagine seeing this thing pass you on the Delaware Memorial Bridge and at the apex it goes sailing off into the sky? What will they think of spending our money on next…

(I want one btw. )

Why YOU Don't Matter (per Today's Republicans)

(Or Why You Only Matter At Election Time)

Caution:  before continuing understand it is dangerous to take one isolated incident and use it to prove a point.  But, oh, this does it so well.

Remember back when people who loved guns more than children were saying (and still do in the News Journal) that gun laws were attacking people who followed the law, and not criminals?

Well, in Milwaukee, a random road rage incident took place between two conceal and carry gun owners. and they drove all over Milwaukee, on and off freeways and through residential and commercial areas, shooting at each other like John Wayne being attacked by a pack of Apaches (indians, not helicopters)…

Both guilty men were sane, law abiding citizens. Both felt with the Zimmerman defense of a corrupt law, they were quite well within the law to kill because of “threats”, and so a ridiculous gun battle reminiscent of the movie Stagecoach took place all over Milwaukee using cars instead of horses….I mean we don’t even show that in movies anymore; that meme died out with the A-Team!

Proving what reasonable people have said all along and the NRA scared certain chicken hearted lawmakers (bock, bock, bock, you know who you are, Bonini & Lavelle) into disregarding…  All gun owners have a crazy streak.

You have to regulate guns. Period.  You just have too because nobody is safe if you don’t! Period.

When you have two reasonably sane human being who would have nothing ever to do with each other, suddenly go berserk for only one, single, solitary reason: they are carrying a gun, then the problem is the gun.

You have to regulate the gun, not the person. Period.

Anyways, since I must confess this sounds like so much fun, (I think paintball car chases would be so awesome) that we should expect quite a few more to copycat  in the very near future.

But remember this:  it was  because they both felt entitled that the law would support them, they took off and performed this act which fortunately did not kill anyone… But it very well could have. The law allowing guns to be concealed and carried, was the principal cause. not the people themselves.

Regulate guns. period.  And don’t listen to the NRA.  They’re full of crap.
