Alternatives to plastic can be made from hemp… Hemp based materials can replace wood and other materials used to build homes and other structures including foundations, walls, shingles, paneling, pipes, and paint.

I believe it was Al Mascitti who said it on Tuesday… What do Christine O’Donnell and Mike Protack have in common? There was never an office they DIDN’T run for…. I believe he called them political opportunists, and I will use that word today…
I’ll let Sher herself explain her opportunism in her own words….
“this is the first chance we (republicans) have to win in twenty years and I could not let it slip away.” (notice nothing about being a…. treasurer?)
After a chat with State Republican Chairman Charlie Copeland in October, Mrs. Sher Valenzuela pondered running for the position of State Treasurer, (notice nothing about being a …… treasurer?)
“No one was saying anything different or speaking up for our conservative values”, (notice nothing about being a ….. treasurer?)
She was also unhappy that the other GOP candidate is perceived by her not to have an appreciation for the state’s dependence on Casinos… (notice nothing about being a….. treasurer?) Anybody notice a trend here?
“I think the best qualifications for this office in terms of what we need to bring to the arena, is business background. This office should be involved in economic development. We should be looking to build our economic future,” … (Hello… it’s a treasury office, not a governor’s race… Quick question: do you even know what a Treasury Officer does?)
She further states that two of our top ten revenue sources include casinos and unclaimed property, and that both are unreliable.“One of the focuses of the office should be calling attention to the fact that some of our top revenue sources are unreliable and developing more reliable revenue through economic growth,” So getting rid of half a billion dollars, to make that up on a tax rate of 6%, we need salary income growth of $8.3 billion a year covering that short-fall. At a job rate of $50,000/year we would need to hire 166,000 people and put them to work… Currently there are 26,000 listed as unemployed, so we would need to import 140,000 people into this state in one year to do what Sher says she wants to do…
Everything revolves around that economic engine. Hopefully people know that I am not a fly-by-night person seeking office. I am not a person with baseless political aspirations, but the key to getting our state back on track is reducing unnecessary regulation and incubating new businesses” Yeah, how well did that work in the Bush years?
“We don’t need people in office acting like they are smarter than the people they serve. Ken Simpler (Valenzuela’s opponent) was working with a Democratic Official’s son to turn the Seashore State park into a casino location, What would Democrats do with that? ”
“more jobs, less government. I don’t know why the chief financial officer can’t go in with sleeves rolled up to reduce regulation and offer new ways to have sustainable revenue through economic development.” Sher, read the Job description….
Our education process will also include the state’s top ten revenue drains ????? (like education? like highways?) Does she think she does the state budget instead of the governor? ?????
Valenzuela states that she will be an advocate of cutting taxes and reducing the size of government, while unleashing Delaware’s economic engine so the people of Delaware have sustainable sources of revenue.
Now, where have we heard this before? Where someone who shoots from the hip challenges a methodical thoughtful person in a Republican Primary and hits them over the head with a brickbat as soon as they pay the filing fee? Familiar?
Let us not bring up the gigantic contradiction… That elephant in the room here…. She’s for less government, unless they are guaranteeing millions of dollars in loans to her business or contracting with her business to the tune of millions as well. She literally wrote a book about how to exploit loopholes and get government money. Don’t believe me? She’s even selling it on her campaign website!?
Ms. Valenzuela criticizes Mr. Simpler because he was willing to invest his “OWN” money in casinos. I guess if he had gotten a government grant it might have been different…
Furthermore In Sheryl Valenzuela’s world Republicans are never to associate with Democrats, much less they are not to do business with Democrats, and certainly not, if this includes their children.
“Hopefully people know that I am not a fly-by-night person seeking office.” Naa! Why would they think that? You only woke up on the morning of the last day for filing and jumped in a race that had a declared candidate, forcing a primary…….
We have a new Christine O’Donnell who is running: because she thinks she can win….

Sometimes doing things Simpler, is best.
Not Nancy’s blog; its awesome. But I am talking about the royalty that runs this state regardless of who gets elected, If a candidate of the people gets in, they are quickly shoved out of viability inside the workings of government and the royalty continues to run things as it wishes.
Our locally elected officials for the most part, actually do try to represent us. And they actually do well representing us on all issues that don’t affect those who think they run things… But go against those, and you get shoved into areas you can do no damage….
Money, influence, status are all the regular clients The “Delaware Way” used to be held up as a good thing… I once believed it was a good thing, as probably did Nancy since it was how she named her blog. The idea was that Democrats and Republicans all got along and got things done for the good of the state, and compared to the breakdown we see daily in Washington DC, that alone does seem to be a benefit….
However, that now seems to have changed. By taking a snapshot of today, their image show “The Delaware Way” is now a group that wants to put in a GIGANTIC power plant 200 yards from Newark’s back yards and doesn’t give a damn how many Newark children die in the process. “The Delaware Way” is now a group that wants to get rid of the Coastal Zone Act, so new polluting industries which can’t get a foothold in any other civilized portion of the planet, can come here and pollute like they could in a third world nation… “The Delaware Way” is now a group that couldn’t care less about segregation, about teaching our children to read or right, about helping in-poverty children learn reading and math, as long as they can get rich off of all their charter schools. “The Delaware Way” wants unions busted; zoning laws gone, conservative dogma taught, and no minimum wage increase until infinity. Today’s “Delaware Way” wants to keep our prisons full, as long as the are privatized and someone gets paid for each incarceration. Today’s “Delaware Way” wants to keep the death penalty, and levy new death penalties on regular citizens by doing nothing to curb the buying or selling of contraband illegal guns. They want to actually make selling stolen guns completely legal… They want to benefit Highmark over Christina Care. They want to charge tolls on all our highways. They don’t want taxes on the rich increased, but lowered. They think today’s middle class earns far too much; they want them poorer…
Their names are familiar. On the national scale they are Tom Carper, John Carney, and Chris Coons. On the state scale they are Gov. Markell, Dave Sokola, Brian Short, Dan Short, Pete Schwartzkoph, Valerie Longhurst… Add names below if you wish….
Instead of change, these people grind down the changes of other well meaning people into dust. A simple rule requiring all schools to put their public board meetings on line, was, since it certainly if publicly voted would have passed, shoved into a drawer to never be seen again… Charter school legislation that will bankrupt every single public school in the state, was drawn up in secret though deemed illegal by the Attorney General’s office of the state, was railroaded through both chambers and signed by the orchestrators above, before anyone knew it was happening… Public schools are stripped of funding, and it was never brought up to the public for debate.
What brought all this up was Connie Merlet’s letter.. published in Nancy’s blog… appropriately titled: The Delaware Way. And it is one tiny piece I wish to draw out… a little statement. a few words strung together that says, so, so much….
“I believe changes were well-intended when the Stars program was envisioned, but it has morphed into a system that has enabled already high-quality day cares to enjoy most of the financial benefits… In conversations with our representatives at both levels, I have realized that they really have no understanding of how that money is actually being used. “
There appears to be a government within our government… One thing is promised and passed and then turned over to be executed. At that point those in the Delaware Way take over, enabling those of privilege get more money, and those in need to become shafted… The legislators, those to whom you throw your vote, for the most part mean well; it is when it gets into the actual bureaucracy that the Delaware Way comes into play. They are the “deciders” as one cowboy once called them.
So no matter what gets passed…. it certainly doesn’t come out the way it was intended… We have a government within our government that does not bode well for the Delaware people. Look at New Castle County under Paul Clark where without brakes of any sort, the Delaware Way had its way…. The elite do what the elite want, despite the fact they only have one vote like everyone else.
John Carney has gotten completely loopy lately. So has Chris Coons. Carper has been pro-elite for a long time now. But their statements in public from these three decrying it is better that they try to get along with our equivalent of Hannibal Lecter, don’t bode well for all of us who are to be his future victims. It appears that their statements still supportive of the Delaware Way, are only meant to have on single purpose….keeping the lambs quiet before their slaughter. ….
I wasn’t going to say anything; obviously I’ve changed my mind as the controversy continues to swill around Chris Coon’s “no” vote against his putting a certain person who once represented a cop killer on the bench….
Chris has said this vote was difficult for him, and I think it would be for any of us finding ourselves in his position. It is easy to have an opinion and act on it when sides are clearly divided. As when it is you against them.
It is not so easy when your close friends are sharply divided, and half want you go go one way; the other half want you to go the next… When in that situation people develop formulas to guide them; such as take a poll and alienate the lesser amount; another is to check with those who are closest to you, and go the way they suggest. A third is to flip a coin, since you lose either way and gain nothing. A fourth is to skip the vote. And a fifth, is to actually look inside yourself, weigh all the data you are privileged to see, seek out the best and worst of both sides, then make a decision on what you think is best…
That last one is a doosey.
But that is what we elect our officials to do. We can’t be there ourselves. We have mouths to feed, bills to pay, bosses to satisfy, and spouses too mollify, and our duty is to pick who we think will do their best making these decisions in our absence… Among leaders, we call it delegation. We delegate these decisions to someone else, and trust they make the correct and right ones.
If you read through Chris’s statement, the emotion jumps off the page that it wasn’t an easy decision for him. None of us who throw invective bombs his way, ever sat down with the family of a fallen police officer and ask how they feel. Therefore we only know half of the equation; and to be straight up, that half is the left-brained, logical side of the equation. Respectfully, the lawyer who represents a client should not be pasted as being aligned to that client, because that, is what lawyers do…. Neither should a plumber be blamed because he once fixed Eric Bodenweiser’s faucet… Same thing; logically speaking; it’s work, that’s all…
But tell me truthfully… did you just cringe when I mentioned fixing Eric Bodenweiser’s faucet? If you were in a bar, and this great guy next to you suddenly spilled that story that he once went to that house, of that man, and took money from him, speaking strictly for me, I would immediately begin looking for another conversationalist… I’m just being honest. I don’t know why, it is completely illogical…. But there is just that stigma…. that kind that causes a shudder from the very inside of the heart, outward…
Again. no offense to anyone in bringing up this description. We all can agree it is just a example of human nature. But it is a very “BIG” part of human nature….
Which means it plays into the equation because all of our transactions are human… Those of us taking Coons to task probably did not look very deeply at the ramifications of having someone like that on the bench. Would there be more jailhouse deaths of inmates, because cops felt the defendant would be let off and knew he was guilty? Would there be less arrests because cops knew their charges would get pardoned anyway? To be honest, probably not, but since those thoughts just ran through my mind I’m sure there are other out there affected similarly….
But what this huge controversy does manifest, no matter which side you happen to be on, is that this decision was tainted. Either way, there is going to be this stigma, one way or the other, to one party or the other, always attached to this appointment….
With every decision this judge would make, forever into the future, … that stigma would get called into account. Either one side or the other would be outraged with every decision being made, by a far greater degree than if those same exact decisions had been made by someone we’d never even heard of before….
And that is where leadership comes into play… Whereas weaker minds would pick and choose sides, debate back and forth whether the one side or the other should win out in the end, the real leader looks at the big picture, charts the path forward over years and decades, and says “what would make all this go away, and get ourselves returned back to business as normal in the shortest possible time frame?”
When that becomes the parameter, the correct answer almost smacks you in the face; it is so clearly obvious what must be done….
Call it Chris’s Lawrence of Arabia moment; when you see the big picture and know what it is you must do. There are bigger, more important battles that need fought. Allowing a tempest in a teapot to derail the future of the entire nation is in no one’s best interest. Someone else, who will do just as great of job sitting on that bench can be found…. By then, many new crises will be upon us, and we’ll all be fortunate we are not reliving this distraction, over, and over, and over….
We made it go away… Whether it was this guy, or another, or a woman who sat on that bench, would not make any probable difference to your life, or mine. There are a lot of people out there who think the way this ex-lawyer does, who have the same depth of feeling towards civil rights, and I’m sure another one can be found rather quickly.. To let that distract from imposing higher taxes on the wealthy, from standing up to brutality in sub-Saharan Africa, from protecting Social Security, from fighting the corporate influence that is slowly choking off everything good we used to love about America, would be in error… And we’d be willing to throw all that away for what? Just for a puny public show to prove how tough we are that we can stand up to the Fraternal Order of Police and not back down?
There may be another time to do so. For example to preserve our Miranda rights. To protect habeas corpus would be another one. To keep the 5th Amendment intact would be a third… Those are all worth losing political capital over. Each of those make decisions that really matter, to not only ourselves, but future Americans down through the years as far as our eyes can see.
You aren’t standing in his shoes. He is. It is called “doing your job” and it is why we elected him; to sometimes even save us from ourselves when necessary…
Oh, well, you can think what ever you want about him, do whatever you want; it’s your right, I won’t say any more; there other far more pressing things needing my attention… But just remember this; that if you were in his shoes, at that time, making that decision, would you simply fall back on your prejudices and pap philosophies, perhaps your political nature that automatically always chooses one side over the other? Or… would you too, look at both sides, and figure out by yourself what America really needs at this point, then do something constructive to move us in that direction?

The reason I began listening to local station WDEL, was because they dropped Rush Limbaugh from their afternoon programing. Instead of hate and stupidness, I got to hear of matters important to me. My county government. My city government. My state government. And of course, national politics always interjected.
I can’t get enough of it. I read the paper in the morning, and I can’t wait for the local talk shows to come on. The progressives own the morning. The conservatives own the afternoon, and I’m still trying to figure out who owns the evening…
It is kinda silly, I know, but because I listen and hear the advertisements, my kids sing their jingles in the car. Driving down Main Street in Newark, they’ll blurt out, “there’s Alex and Ani’s“. The older kids insist they want music on, but I’m the boss.
Some of the advertisers seem like old friends. One hears them over and over, and even can go back and note the different commercials back through time. Calvert Plumbing and Heating is one I hope to use next time fate strikes. The best one, besides the “Alex and Ani” with sitar music put in place by Rick Jensen, is the DelmarvaJobs.com featuring the harp player. I hope that gets nominated for CLIO, the advertiser’s equivalent of the Oscars….
And this should be in everyone’s Northern Delaware bookmarks. It is the tower cam. One rarely thinks of us being in eyesight of downtown Philadelphia, but we certainly are. One can tell the weather with one visual click.
Anyways, the point of this was not to brag on WDEL and extol how fortunate we were to have it at our disposal, but to point to the dark side, which is about that human being whose leaving is what drove me to begin listening to WDEL in the first place.
Rush Limbaugh is in trouble. For a while he was harmless harping at Democrats, and we all know, sometimes Democrats need harping at. But as his worth became higher, he had to push buttons to justify his high expense. His audience no longer consisted of regular Joe’s, but had to become fanatics who would listen and respond. And the biggest thing fanatics crave, is more fanaticism, and Rush obliged.
Now, he bashes the poor. Now he bashes every gay person. Now he bashes Liberals. And last March, he bashed a woman for simply being a woman.
That made people take notice. WHOA, this guy is an ass…… Seriously, when you demean 53% of the population (women), knowing that at least half the men are married and will dutifully side with their spouses (YOU’D BETTER!)….. ticking off 75% of the American population, can’t be good for business.
That is bearing fruit.
Arising from that, several organizations are targeting his advertisers. This is not a hate campaign. It is a calm, respectable, and very businesslike campaign. They are calling up advertisers and saying …”yesterday your ad played on this station at this time, and this is what went before and after it… Advertisers were appalled…. Most of them do not support Rush Limbaugh, but buy ads with a local radio station…. The radio station then puts their ads in holes where ever they need them… Radio stations that carry Rush Limbaugh are bound by contract to still do so, and are having a terrible time scheduling just those advertisers who … so far… have not expressly said…” Make sure we aren’t on Rush.”
2200 sponsors have pulled their ads so far. At first these were mentioned but Rush supporters attacked these businesses with threats of shooting them with NRA sanctioned assault weapons (they were idle threats, no events occurred) that now, the names are kept hidden. But anyone listening over time, can certainly, after hearing only one advertisement on his program get played over and over, realize his brand is in deep trouble.
The show is doing so badly that Freedom Works, the Karl Rove PAC that garnered $300 million dollars, is using their money just to keep Rush on the air…
So in what seems like an outrageous chain of events, the only reason Rush Limbaugh is still on air it appears, is because billionaires have too much money on their hands… In 2013, Freedom Works plans to spend between $25 and $30 million. Glenn Beck is also included in its largess.
Freedom of speech is a right. No one is arguing over whether Freedom Works benefactor Stepheson can say what he wants with his $100 million donations. But that right goes both ways. Advertisers have the right to know what their money appears to be saying about themselves when their ads show up on Rush Limbaugh.
It says, “I the advertiser, support the embarrassment of the poor. I support the deportation of Mexicans. I support the incarceration of the entire black comminity. I support the killing of Liberals with assault weapons, and I support the rape of women”… In fact, supporting Rush, say something like this: ” Hey, woman, come take your clothes off and dance for me….. After all, that’s all you’re good for!!!! Ha, ha, ha.”
You too must join in taking him down, for the simple reason that it allows many more Americans to enjoy the benefits of local radio programming as we have here in Delaware for 6 years….

To really understand Christmas, you need to be in the Third World, hot climate, where Christianity doesn’t exist. Life is just a normal day. Their religion’s calling out prayer, markets bustling as always, and you are working too…. Somewhere during that day, if you are an American, it hits you. Wow, its the 25th.. This is Christmas.
And so it was. No one knew who Jesus was. The Bible says that in his own way, God announced it. But if you were living in Bethlehem roughly 2000 years ago, it would be like what you see here before you today. Life as normal. Just like every other day…
And that is the beauty of Christmas. In your town, today, the child of the second coming could be born. You would never know. And that offers a clue to how God works… He works things in his own way….
And somehow, it works out…. Against all odds of the dice being thrown in multiple odds, it always lands the right way when it is needed…
After all your calls home, you report for duty in the hospital where you work, and from a room a newborn cries out. The question hits you. What if in two thousand years, everyone shall know his name? At first you scoff, he’s just another mid-eastern baby. But then, so was Jesus…..
It happened just like this… THAT is the mystery of Christmas…
Thank you Delaware Liberal. I don’t know where I was to have missed this. And it is rare I comment on something already out there.
This boggles the mind…. This person, beat Mike Castle? What the hell is wrong with Sussex County? David Anderson. You better explain yourself. And your beat-up, tattered party, Mr Seigler, is a disgrace. Putting your party’s well being ahead of a child’s rape is unconscionable. Mr. Seigler, this is your doing. As head of the Republican Party of Delaware, you sir, are entirely responsible. Where is your outrage over Christine’s statement? Didn’t think it was even worth commenting on….

Oh, that’s “tacky” to bring that up before election time says the woman who tried hard to smear old Mike Castle as being gay, two weeks before the 2010 primary election. … Child rape… ha ha ha.. Republicans don’t care about that…. Mr. Seigler hasn’t even apologized to Sussex County yet.. WGMD is still trying to propagandize these indictments as lies, made up and brought to bear upon an innocent man.
Let me tell you one thing, Republican Party of Delaware…. My favorite football program is under sanctions for something far, far, far, less egregious then what you, Mr. Siegler, Christine O’Donnell, and staff of WGMD, are trying to cover up…..
Anyone, anyone who votes for any Republican in Delaware this election, any Republican especially in Sussex County, will be guilty of promoting child homosexual rape by association…..
Seriously Delaware. if you dare vote for any Republican, if you dare; whether its Greg LaVelle, Cathy Cloutier, Dori Conner, Evan Queitsch, or Brian Pettyjohn, …. you are showing your support for Mr. Seigler, Jeff Christopher, and all those who knew and kept this quiet.. All should resign immediately. And every Republican who wants to run in the future, (are you listening Mr. Kovich and Mr. Craig) should immediately suspend their campaigns over this issue, toss in the towel, and say, that they cannot be apart of any organization that puts their party’s win/loss record, as a higher priority over that of the safety of a child….
Republicans: Christine O’Donnell is your voice, like it or not. She is your highest profile candidate, and like it or not, she SPEAKS FOR YOUR PARTY. The only recourse any decent human being has in the Republican Party after today, is to walk away…. Just say, “I’m not dealing with this crap; I quit….”

I feel so bad for the boy. I thought, my, what if that had been my son?
Now as a parent I wonder. What on earth could I possibly do for my son after he’d experienced something like that. How as a parent could I somehow give hope, that even though something hellish and horrific took place, “yeah, son, you can still go on”. “Yeah, son, you can still succeed”. “yeah, son, you can have the best revenge, which is living well…”
Platitudes don’t cut it.
How does one communicate through to someone who has gone through such a tragedy? Here all my words fall short. I don’t know if I can. And that ineffectiveness pains me. I don’t think that of all the good that is in me, that any, none that I could give, could ever fill but the tiniest part of that vast hole which must lurk within…..
I do know that closure is important. Having evil lose, is very important to mankind. It is important to all of us. It will be hard, for those memories are buried deep. When they get exhumed as you go through the trial, which with appeals will take years, those feelings you haven’t felt for years, all come rushing back with the intensity you once experienced them…..
But for closure, justice must be pursued. For the simple reason is, that if justice is not allowed to fulfill it’s proper destiny, than we are all unjust ourselves, because we stood in its way. And that, is not who we are…
People will say you are brave. They will thank you for coming forward. They will interview you for your deepest feelings. Then they will go on with their lives proud of what they did. They will forget you.
That may be good, and that may be hard on you after being in the limelight for so long.
And that is when you anger really begins. You no longer have an outlet to express it. Your friends tell you to get over it. You feel like you are a pariah where ever you go…. Whether you imagine or it is real, whispers of being “that victim” will always haunt you….
I probably shouldn’t mention it here, it’s way too early in the process, but there is a way out. And what goes on outside of you, really has nothing to do with what is on your inside….
And that is to forgive him. Yes. forgive Eric Bodenweiser. I’m not saying to let justice off the hook; its wheels need to grind with regularity. Justice is out of your hands. What is in your hands, is your heart…
Forgiveness has been rated a weakness by our American society. When actually it is very hard to do. It takes a tougher man to forgive, than it does to carry revenge as a motive for the rest of their life. That actually is easy compared to forgiving one who did something so horrible to you.
I don’t know if you are up for it. I think it is far too tough for most people. Christians talk about it, but in your case, I think that would be the wrong example to bring up. I know Martin Luther King did it. I know Gandhi did it. I know Mandela did it. I know Mother Teresa did it.
I really didn’t get why forgiveness is important, until watching Star Wars. But somewhere along one of those episodes, it hit me that my anger was what was keeping me weak. It was the focus of all I did. I couldn’t see life past it. It made me do things other people saw as ugly. It created many problems over which I was always trying to overcome. I often wondered why I always had so many problems compared to others, without understanding that I was the one creating them… Where Yoda says: “let go of the anger. let go of the hurt…” that was the point in my lifetime where I realized forgiveness wasn’t something Christian. It was something human, requiring us to use our minds and talk ourselves through our anger, and accept that what happened, was a part of what we were to become in our future….. and that we had a choice of whether to turn that into good, or continue the evil.
Point is, when you finally let go, you are the beneficiary. Mostly we are taught to think forgiveness is for our foe. No, it really is for us; it is a cathartic experience that yeah, we walked through hell and survived… Only after we have truly forgiven them, can we look at ourselves and say, wow, I’m this really great human being. I’m like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Mandela, and Sister Teresa.
I said above, that there was nothing I could do. But perhaps this is it. Perhaps just for years, keep in mind that forgiving Eric Bodenweiser will be what you have to do someday to move beyond this…. It might take years after justice has been served…. Just keep it in mind. … My heart, my soul goes out to you now…

If some future historian looks back, I can only guess they may kindly make some note of the quality of thought that underlies these efforts, but my guess, is no one will ever notice…
Irregardless, as long as the urge to put thoughts down for others continues, we will go on. As usual, with no goal, no direction, and no ulterior motive. Probably upon reflection, my biggest surprise, right here, right now … is that I still enjoy it so much, and can’t wait to jot my thoughts down, click the button, and send them off to where ever cyberspace and the vast internet ocean, lets them drift….
