I came across this post while searching for root causes in the Middle East. I have noticed that with the outgoing Bush now tainted as a target of shoes and other things, domestically there has been much more vocal sympathy for the Palestinians now than I can remember ever hearing before….
I can remember when Palestinians were not thought of highly at all, and all assumed that Israel could do no wrong.
Things change.
Apparently AP Wireservices miss-translated and juggled this headline in an effort to tie Iran to the killing of Jews…
The author of this post, juxtaposes AP’s headline with that from the Iranian newspaper itself…
Here is the Iranian Paper:
In separate phone calls to IRNA, students from universities of Tehran, Mashhad and Kerman announced their readiness to undertake operations in defense of the people of Gaza.
Here is the AP report:
Hard-line Iranian student groups have appealed to the government to authorize volunteer suicide bombers to leave Iran and fight against Israel in response to the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip. . . .
Five hard-line student groups and a conservative clerical group launched a registration drive on Monday, seeking volunteers to carry out suicide attacks against Israel.
I’ve heard of journalistic leaps …. but from AP?…From where did you get the notion of “suicide”? Where did you get the clue there were “bombers”? How did you get “attacks against Israel” out of the words “in defense of the people of Gaza” ? One has to laugh. AP’s statement has the same validity as if Pravda back in August had headlined that the University of Delaware’s Young Republicans’ Club, was sending volunteers to blow themselves up in Moscow train stations in order to protest the Georgian invasion…. If Pravda were to go to press with such a silly story…. I sure not one Muscovite would believe it….No one would… And I would certainly hope that our nation is perhaps a tiny bit more sophisticated than the average vodka infused citizen of Moscow (Za Vas)? 🙂
So why is AP doing this? To drive a wedge into America’s new found sympathy to the Palestinian cause? Or, do they just get their translations from these people and print them?
Bottom line: after being told that there were WMD’s in Iraq back in 2002, and that Iran was close to detonating a nuclear device in May 2007…..you can’t trust anything these guys say.

Your post nicely compliments the one I ran yesterday on Hamas and the crucifixion story.

Gaza is getting bombed by Israel and ignored by Arab States like Egypt.
Israel is taking advantage of the transition between Presidents and knowing Obama will be indecisive. If Iran launches the suicide bombers stand by for bombings in Iran by Israel. Iran would be very foolish.
The bombings will get more severe and will go on for as long as Israel wants to do so.

Mike Protack: Malicious or Just Plain Stupid?

Steve:
O’ what tangled webs we weave…..
Both our posts are about slight nuances of language, which to be honest at least I on occasion am guilty of practicing at least… Perhaps that might be why we can pick them out so readily….. 🙂
Anonone: You are linking a gubernatorial Republican primary candidate with the Associated Press… Your statement makes no sense, at least to me at this time. It sounds like you are just trying to be plain mean….. explain what you are trying to accomplish….

Happy New Year, Kavips!
To be specific in just his comment here: Is the statement by Protack “knowing Obama will be indecisive” malicious or stupid? Or maliciously stupid? Or stupidly malicious?

Remember Kennedy who via his youth was sensitive to the “indecisive” charge, and hours into his administration, was beset with the Bay of Pigs scenario and told he needed to act decisive….
He says he should have gone with his “gut feeling” on that one…
There is some truth in Protack’s statement that we are in a lull between two presidents, just as we are in limbo between two governors… There is a flurry of appointments on one side, but no resulting policy, and the lull of impending vacationing silence of the other side, except as did Bush last Saturday, open his mouth to prove once again that he has no grasp of the complexity being presented in Gaza…. Kilroy, I couldn’t help but remember the phrase …”stronger than dirt.” Is anyone out still cool enough to also make that connection?
Leading to the trivia question: What do the Doors, and “stronger than dirt” have in common? Allan, care to take a stab at that?

Didn’t Morrison say those words at the end of Touch Me? A cleaning commercial reference? Loved, loved, loved The Doors!

Close.. but not quite: P
It’s been a wild weekend. 🙂 (Happens every playoff year) I’ll give 24 hours for others to have a chance, even if just to shake out who “really” is a Door’s fan out there…
Then I’ll let you know….

Had to check it out!
“Ajax was the son of Telamon, the king of Salamis. He was one of two Trojan War heroes named Ajax who was on the side of the Greeks.”
Operation Ajax was well after the introduction of Ajax the cleaner “Stronger than dirt.” The Doors, it appears members of the Doors wanted to sell Light my Fire to Buick who wanted to use it as a Buick car ad. But other stuff I am reading makes me think Morrison was signaling that he was like the knight in the Ajax commercial that was stronger than dirt in that he didn’t want to sellout to commercialism. Apparently adding horns to the Doors to broaden the bands appeal was all about making money!
So what the hell does In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (Iron Butterfly) mean.
Pandora I think it was after “Light My Fire”.

You’re stretching… It’s a little simpler than that…… But part of what you said could provide some background information to the question…
Loudell, Delaware’s Trivia Guru, must be tied up with the Gaza mess………..

Gaza mess! For once I side 100% with the Israelis. The rocket attacks (many) into Israel just couldn’t go unchecked. They were and are targeted at Israel civilians. They are nothing more than Fieseler Fi 103 aka V-1’s.
Iran? Why not stir up a little trouble in the Middle East to help increase the price of oil! Once Iran really starts rattling the sabers the price of oil will increase.

Kilroy,
I hate tiny mosquitos too. Swatting at them is ineffective. But draining the entire swamp to eradicate them, stirs up a lot of animosity from those other swamp creature who just happen to make that place their home.
One night the animal kingdom is outside your door, reminescent of those “Night of the Zombie” characters…. You ultimately die by beaver suffocation….. (other creatures may contribute to your demise as well).
