Someone commented on a later post on the DE Way:
Rick Porter said the horse gave it’s life for the race. He’s an idiot.
And I answered:
He is an idiot. No horse should be asked to do more than they can safely do.
That jockey should be punished.
The same can be said, IMHO, about Barbaro’s trainer who allowed him to continue on to run even though he had hurt himself immediately prior to the start of the race.
Horses are born to run but they are not formed up enough to run that hard so young.
Irish trainers usually wait until the horse is five to race them (or they used to when I was in the business).
Just because a horse has the heart to run on a bum leg does not mean that they shouldn’t be pulled up as soon as a jockey determines that the horse’s gait is off. I noticed that there was something off about the way the filly was galloping on Saturday.
It is a horrible thing to hear that TWO legs were broken on this young filly. Shame on that jockey.
