McCain won Florida. Despite the Romney campaign spitting out this.
I have chastised several Mitt supporters by telling them that this ad does a lot to elevate McCain to “hero” status. A man so beloved by both parties hasn’t happened since George Washington left office.
What the hell were they thinking by showing it?
Apparently Florida thought the same way I did, and went for McCain by 4.9%. (Only Zogby came close with a 4.0 prediction. All the other pollsters, well…. to be polite let us just say that from now on they’ve got credibility problems.)
Listening to conservative talk shows was actually fun today. first Rush Limbaugh!
“Here is the bottom line, ladies and gentlemen,” Limbaugh said. “I think this is it. There was a lot of anxiety among a lot of conservatives about Senator McCain. It’s simply indisputable. But there was no figure in our roster of candidates who rose up to challenge him or galvanize conservative support. All the candidates on our side, for various reasons, are uninspiring or worse.”
Take that Mitt Romney, Giuliani, Ron Paul, Thompson, and Huckabee? According to the self appointed king of conservatism, YOU ARE UNINSPIRING OR WORSE! Take that supporters of these candidates: “E“, David Anderson, Dave Burris, Frank Knotts, Priscilla Rakestraw! Your judgment and intellect itself has been called into question. What’s wrong with you fake conservative supporters, …..too hyped up on your painkillers to make accurate assessments anymore?
Ladies and gentlemen,……….now do you see why we say Rush Limbaugh has no idea what he is talking about? Now do you understand how we have taken him as a grain of salt since 1992?……. He just dissed 100% of the Republican Party!………Unless of course you too subscribe to the feelings he espouses……..which I doubt very highly.
But he wasn’t the only one:
Hannity’s forums are full of despondent Conservatives crying for their mother’s milk. Guess what….with Conservatives currently receiving only an 8% approval rating, they aren’t getting it. (Use Cheney’s approval rating as a base).
Even Laura Ingraham was perplexed on where to take tonights show, now that it was apparent that McCain was on his way to the White House, and the Conservative talk radio, which had done everything in it power to put McCain back to where we was just two months ago, ie. on the very bottom gasping for air from the media’s waterboarding, was on the outside looking in.
Duh.
Get this. When Bush ran in South Carolina he touted his win as the consummate proof that Conservatives were behind his candidacy. And today, as we saw ten days ago, they are behind McCain. Florida Republicans, too conservative for Giuliani, by a winning plurality of 4.9%, are also behind John McCain! Only in Michigan and Nevada, certainly centers of liberalism, has Romney carried the day.
So one can assume, that those long-time spokesmen of Conservatism, have gone the way of the Whigs and Federalist. Extinct.
And why is that? Because the Conservative policies they have put in place over the last 7 years DO NOT WORK! One can trumpet an untried philosophy and win the argument. But one cannot go against 7 years of irrefutable evidence emphatically showing that the philosophy in question, is an abject failure.
So after today, Conservatism has a new face, one that Republicans and many Democrats endorse. If Republicans wish to have any chance of winning the White House, and despite most consensus, they still have as good as chance as any if they encyst those who hijacked their party in 2000, and blaze new ground.
Conservatism is alive and well. Its only problem is that it has the wrong people espousing it. Someone who has survived sitting in a four by four cage in honor of America probably has a better grasp on what America stands for, than someone digesting up to 25 painkillers a day sitting in front of a microphone.
No….. Conservative is not the new “dirty” word. But then again, neither is “Liberal”.
“Stupid” is the new dirty word. If one wants to find it on the airwaves try looking on any one of the Clear Channel stations scattered across this country.
Republicans have spoken. And they aren’t stupid.

Calling the last 7 years Conservative demonstrates either ignorance or expands the definition of “conservative” beyond the breaking point.

Hey Duffy, tell that to the GOP. Are Republicans standing up to their political leadership and saying enough is enough?
Maybe that is why the GOP had difficulty raising money this election cycle compared to the DEMs.

Duffy, interesting point. By process of elimination, since the last seven years were not liberal, and since Dick Cheney calls himself conservative, and since there was no disclaimer uttered when this administration began its association with the philosophy of the neocons, ie the New America Century; by default, one must apply to them the term “conservative”, even though most conservatives today, like you will shudder at the thought.
Granted; there is a huge difference between the two.
Nancy, also interesting to note that nothing was said within the Republican party to distance the two streams, until elections started being lost. Only then did the “distancing” begin, away from the tack taken by this administration.

Well, I was at least one Republican who resisted this administration and its actions long before a lot of Democrats started figured out they could win elections by doing so. Hell, I supported McCain in 2000 against Bush. I have never trusted the Bushes and their messianic globaloney. Never will.
When the Bush junta and their stain are (soon) history, the GOP will right its ship again and conservatism will regain its footing, seized the mantle back from the Trostkyite neo-con loonies. Thank God Ron Paul has hung tough in this race and called them out.
Incidentally, I also never engaged in the petty game of “liberals are evil”, either. That’s not to say I didn’t have spirited arguments about it, but without he constant recrimination game of which both sides have become too guilty these days. But you are right, kavips, that bloated idiots like Limbaugh have too long poisoned the well (and the minds of many), such that everything has to be an acidic fight-to-the-death between parties or ideologies. Enough is enough (…for both sides, Nance).

Well, I respectfully disagree with you. America is stronger in many ways not weaker than it was 7 years ago.
As for my judgement, First the election is not over. Second, I don’t support John McCain because I do have judgement. I would support him if he does win. It would be more active if he is opposing Mrs. Clinton or if he has Gov. Huckabee or Gov. Palin on the ticket. In 1996, I considered myself supporting Kemp not Dole.
I think the Conservative movement had a setback. It is not a dirty word but the brand is damaged. We might have to accept a partnership the next election instead of running the show. That is a lot better than being the opposition. A year ago it looked like November 2008 would be a blood bath for the GOP. Thanks to Gov. Huckabee and Rep. Paul, the disaffected found a home in the party.
We let the neocons fool us into running the show for us while we sat back and enjoyed life. They do not recognize many principles of Conservatism and they showed first hand that a half milk and half coffee conservatism just curdles.

David, I think I know where you are going with this, but when you get time, will you clue the rest of us in on how America could possibly be stronger now than it was seven years ago.
You couldn’t have surprised me more by any statement in the English language. Even if you told me you had to boil Ice Cream to make it hard!
To be honest, I don’t get it. How, can we possibly be stronger now than seven years ago?
Please educate us soon. Currently the consensus among most of our crowd is that you have lost your mind.

How could anyone be mad at someone astute enough to know what the Bull Moose Party is….
If your are referring to my lack of an above comment, it was probably due to the comprehensiveness of your post.
It simply left nothing more to say. But over the lapse of time, one aspect bears mention, particularly after seeing Obama pass through Delaware today.
The one factor I find fascinating is that throughout the primaries, citizens of all political persuasions are repudiating anyone associated with the past, and voting for a new direction. That holds true for Democrats as well as Republicans.
McCain is not winning because he has pulled wool over every Republican’s eyes. He is winning because he represents the direction Republicans want to take the party.
The neo-conservatives are finished. Anyone who believes we can get our oil by taking it…..is finished. Anyone who believes we can stop social spending by bankrupting the country…..is finished. Anyone who believes corporations should be allowed to spend unlimited finances to influence elections, …..is finished. Anyone who still thinks cutting taxes will trickle down to the bottom layer,….is finished. Their doctrine simply does not work. As in “The Emperor With No Clothes” Republicans are rubbing their eyes, awaking to the realization that they weren’t stupid for disagreeing with the neoconservative’s failed agenda; it was the failed agenda that was stupid to begin with.

Thanks, kavips…I was more kidding than anything else. You nailed it nicely…change this year will be a non-partisan affair. I hope.
