Remember that American Serviceman detained two weeks ago…. for supposedly threatening the safety and sanctity of America? Well, he is out now, and we can hear his story.
Brandon Raub, a 26-year-old decorated military vet that served two tours overseas, was visited by agents with the US Secret Service, the FBI and local law enforcement on August 16 after statements he made on his personal Facebook page raised the eyebrows of authorities……
Posts calling for a political revolution placed his social networking profile on government radar, and after briefly questioning him at his house two weeks ago, Raub was handcuffed and hauled off and we now know, admitted to a psych ward..
One week later he was released from custody, but Raub and his attorney say that not only was no crime committed, but that the Marine still has yet to be charged with a crime….
Let’s see. Officials read his facebook (private only to friends), come in the middle of the night, interrogate then take him away, incarcerate him in a hidden psyche ward, release him one week later…… No crime charged…. Authorities never read him his rights or charged him with a crime; instead he was detained under a civil commitment statute that his attorney says whisks away hundreds of thousands of Americans every year in episodes just like this one that rarely go recognized in the media.
Was he a Taliban suspect then? NO, HE WAS OUR FRONT LINE DEFENSE AGAINST THE TALIBAN IN AFGHANISTAN…….. SEMPER FI….
Yes, but in that case, he should have KNOWN not to publish inflammatory or revolutionary stuff in public media…. He is asking for it….
Oh, btw, the stuff he published? Was the rap song lyrics he and his friend were talking about earlier and had gotten messed up, so he googled them, and put them on facebook for his friend……
I’m pretty tough, I rolled with the punches…. It made me scared for my country……
This blog is a must read before anyone writes that the students “deserved” it.. My right wing friends, you know who your are… So you don’t look too stupid later, read this before trying to write something witty…..
1. The protest at which UC Davis police officers used pepper spray and batons against unresisting demonstrators was an entirely nonviolent one.
2. The unauthorized tent encampment was dismantled before the pepper spraying began.
3. Students did not restrict the movement of police at any time during the demonstration.
4. Lt. Pike was not in fear for his safety when he sprayed the students. Chief Spicuzza told reporters on Thursday that her officers had been concerned for their safety when they began spraying. But again, multiple videos show this claim to be groundless.
The most widely distributed video of the incident (viewed, as I write this, by nearly 700,000 people on YouTube) begins just moments before Lt. Pike begain spraying, but another video, which starts a few minutes earlier, shows Pike chatting amiably with one activist, even patting him casually on the back.
(The pat on the back occurs just two minutes and nineteen seconds before Pike pepper sprayed the student he had just been chatting with and all of his friends.)
5. University of California Police are not authorized to use pepper spray except in circumstances in which it is necessary to prevent physical injury to themselves or others.
6. UC police are not authorized to use physical force except to control violent offenders or keep suspects from escaping.
7. The UC Davis Police made no effort to remove the student demonstrators from the walkway peacefully before using pepper spray against them.
8. Use of pepper spray and other physical force continued after the students’ minimal obstruction of the area around the police ended.
9. Even after police began using unprovoked and unlawful violence against the students, they remained peaceful.
10. The students’ commitment to nonviolence extended to their use of language.
Now, lets compare their composure with that of the Tea Party….

In following this movement I have notice one thing. A lot of effort is being made to keep these viral videos showing Police brutality, under wraps.
As the news broke about the University of Davis public relation’s disaster, YouTube tried to suppress the video. It was on a search list, then pulled. ABC news published a white washed version without video, extolling the rowdiness of the students, nothing backing it up. Fox News was last to carry any mention. CBS flashed up the press release from the Chancellor condoning the use of force to remove tents, and saying it was absolutely necessary.
Only “the truth” of video, was their undoing. When what is now being called “The Empire Strikes Back”, when Homeland Security coordinated the police sweepings of the camps of Denver, New York, Portland, Oakland, University Berkley, they seemed to not to account for the fact, that everyone today has a video camera, either on their phone or in HD.
Actually proving that people think in preconceived patterns, they BANNED the press from filming the police moving in… obviously not wanting any provocative pictures to sway peoples opinion. They seemed to have forgotten, that in America, everyone has video. Perhaps had the press also been allowed to film the cleanup, more restraint would have been shown by rogue police, and these events now galvanizing the OWS Movement, would not have taken place…..
Boston, the heart of Brain USA ( Braintree is their suburb) actually forbid the police from doing anything to interfere with people expressing their constitutional right to protest. Brilliant. One has to hand to to those Mass’es…
Here is how to handle dissent effectively.
Don’t hide, run into the problem. Send the mayor into the Occupy Camp, unarmed.
As mayor, specifically say you agree that the 1% needs to be taxed and that their money needs to be gotten out of politics. As mayor, ask them for help, to make that happen. As mayor embrace the idea that low taxes on the wealthy create unemployment, unfunded mandates, too little money, and unfunded services.
As mayor, use the press to endorse the OWS Cause, saying these people who are camping here, ARE America’s true heroes…
To make them fade back into society we need to tax the rich, and remove corporate money from every political campaign.
If, by magic that were to happen today, within one week, there would be no tents. There would be no protest… There would be no grievances.
Tax the rich; remove corporate money from all campaigns.
There are the two extremes.
One, a person who makes an invention, should be able to make money off his idea, and not have it stolen out from under him, by someone else…
Two, we have a right to our own thoughts and since all thoughts are incorporations of other people’s thoughts, for free speech to occur, we cannot hold everyone liable for everything borrowed they say….
Where do we draw the line?
“The Congress shall have power…To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries;”
Limited time.
So if I was talking to Nancy, and said, hey did you hear the new Radiohead Song about Christine O’Donnell and she said no, and I sang it to her (rather well I might add), then I would have violated the Constitution by violating the exclusive right of Radiohead to be the first one to let Nancy in on that song….
But, if pursued, I would be safe under the Free Speech clause of the Constitution…
So if I was talking to Liberal Geek, and had these great Pink Floyd lyrics that just fit a current event and repeated them to him, I would be violating the Constitution by not allowing Pink Floyd the exclusive right to be the first to let him on that correlation.
But, if pursued, I would be safe under the Free Speech clause of the Constitution.
And so, if using the Internet, I were to take a YouTube clip of a campaigner, say sucking on a corndog, and say this is what campaigning has boiled down to, why aren’t we discussing issues anymore”.. I would be violating the Constitution by not allowing that person, whomever it might be, the right to be the first to make that correlation….
Bit if pursued. I would be protected under my first amendment rights…. My right to free speech…
Now, lets say, I did post a corndog picture. or one of Obama smoking a cigarette, or one of Obama with a hole in his head… and got arrested….
I would say I was protected under the Freedom of Speech clause of the Constitution. Right?
No, not if the SOPA bill currently supported by Chris Coons, John Carney, or Tom Carper, gets voted on and passed…
Also, 99% of YouTubes videos will be yanked, if this bill becomes law.
Also, 99% of Googles information, will be pulled, or hidden, if this bill becomes law.
Also 99% of Yahoo’s and the other search engines, will have to scrub a majority of their files… if this bill becomes law…
This is a dumb law.. Really, really, really dumb…
Just like the last dumb law pushed by the entertainment lobby. To make VCR’s illegal.
“We are going to bleed and bleed and hemorrhage, unless this Congress at least protects one industry that is able to retrieve a surplus balance of trade and whose total future depends on its protection from the savagery and the ravages of this machine. … I say to you that the VCR is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston strangler is to the woman home alone.”
Jack Valenti before Congress April 12 1982.
The VCR business made millions for the entertainment industry.
I just used that without their permission.
I could be shut down, and so, could Wikipedia…
Without which, what’s the point of having internet?
Correct me if I’m wrong. But today, I speak more on the internet than I do with real people. How about you? True or False?
We the people have the right, based on precedence and common sense, to have our own thoughts without having to worry about them being monitored, stored, and used against us at a later date.
It needs to be clear. The Internet is free. Copying a song and sending it, is the exact same thing as humming a tune to another person. Under no circumstances is if allowable for a government to shut down a site, that is involved with the dissemination of information. Information is not open for discussion. It is everything on the internet.
This bill is too loose and like the Patriot Act, too invasive. The entertainment industry already makes billions. None of that, or only a tiny fraction, goes to the personnel who created the object.
The fact that we should all never again speak freely, should always temper what we say, so they can make another $10,000… is absolutely obscene…
You need to let them know.
I was talking to an old Republican who visits his doctor tomorrow for his monthly visit, and we were discussing hospitals around where he lived…
As he was ruminating about why he wouldn’t go to this hospital, or that hospital, or the problems with every other except for the one he was going to, he blurted out “we need health care reform now.”
Of course me, wasn’t going to let that opportunity pass.. “Its your party that is holding up the process… They are insisting on the status quo”.
His reply was: “Oh private insurance sounds good, until you try to use it… Then you find this isn’t covered, that isn’t covered. and it dawns on you that you have been paying all these years, only to be ripped off… They have your money… They’re giving none of it back…”
He opened my eyes to another insurance scam… “Before I was on Medicare D, I was paying everything out of pocket, my pills used to cost around $40… Now, they cost over three times as much… around $140 and with the insurance I have, I pay: $40 dollars… We’re just subsidizing the insurance companies… Our cost, their cost, has stayed the same… They just mark up the price to pretend like they’re spending something on us. Nothing’s changed…”
He added one more item that allowed me to see a broader perspective:
“The debate is between those who have been through the hospital process, and those who haven’t… Those who argue to keep things the way they are, stacked in favor of the providers, have never been sick. When you get old, and broken down, you realize that the way things are now, isn’t good. You’re ready for it to change….”
His words still echoed hours later… Apparently we need YouTube scenarios of what happens in hospitals today, to be viewed publicly as part of today’s health care equation… Congress needs information. It would be a shame if it lived in a bubble of lobbyists and made a monumental decision, without directly seeing how that decision impacts the daily lives of Americans… both Democrats….. and Republicans…..
No, it’s not what you think…
but it is seripenditious that it occurred on the same day that we are discussing Fox News as simply an attack organization, and not one that has any new value what so ever…
I dropped TV.
I have one of those three way plans, and I dropped TV…
How does it feel? The same as when your mother-in-law leaves home from visiting. Some things about it were nice, but overall, their presence was an intrusion…. interfering with the normal flow of things.
Why?
I don’t use it.
And it is odious whenever I check things out.
And as for news, it is usually half a day or far behind the cutting edge I call reality…
So why keep it?
The only one solitary reason for having a television hooked up, Battlestar Galactica, has finished..
Even local news, WHYY is being discontinued.
The internet has taken over…
Really, who needs television?
I’ll keep you posted if I change my mind…
(My kids hate me but have already channeled their energy into far more productive things, as did our ancestors.) We are quite pleased.
America needs every citizen to stand up on that day… Voting is just one half… The other half is being on the lookout for voter fraud… If “We The People” are going to run this country, our vote needs to matter… If someone can make up vote totals, then what’s the point… we might as well live in Myanmar….
The potential to steal the election is huge, because of our reliance upon electronics…..The potential to keep it honest and above board… is also huge…again because of electronics….
Manipulating votes is illegal… People serve time in jail for doing so… Therefore it must take place where there is no public scrutiny… Just like roaches, vote manipulation takes place in the dark… or in black boxes…
Here are steps all geeks should take to monitor those who monitor elections…
First… use your camera phone to record your voting experience… if you have data that is even something slightly suspicious… YouTube it… email others to the link…. Some things you should be aware of… someone setting the machine before you vote… whether your vote is totaled in the counter, whether the vote you push is the one you want…(especially on miscalibrated machines), whether election officials arrive to “check” the machines and replace cartridges, record anyone who is challenged in front or behind you (it could be legit, record it and post it)…
There is great fear among extremists that they will lose all links to representation… Some may believe they are doing their patriotic duty to throw the election….. But Americans have the right to elect who they wish… Violating that principle goes against the basis of freedom itself… That is why it is against the law…
Being caught is their greatest fear….A lengthy trial, and prison term will decimate their finances, basically ruin any good that would have come from the election’s changed outcome….. With electronic data on file in every voters cell phone, if something were to be investigated at a later date…(five years from now even.)….a wealth of evidence could be solicited…. and with certainty, they could serve their sentence….
Small digital Cameras, with video functions, are also a great asset… Make sure you have a spare set of batteries if your lines are long….
Special attention needs to be paid to districts with low turnout… That is where manipulation will occur due to the few number of witnesses..
No election official has the right to take your camera… if someone is filming you to intimidate you, (you can tell by their demeanor) that too is illegal.. Film him doing so and report that act of intimidation to an official of the Department of Elections… That intimidator can serve jail time too.
Finally after all voting is over…. fight “black box control”. Remember that everywhere across this great nation, our elections are staffed and run by citizen volunteers… People for whatever reason gave up one day of their lives to insure that we all get the opportunity to do our civic duty… Of course some of those can be plants, but on a national scale, the number of those that get through… will be small at best… As we saw in Ohio 04, the election will be stolen from where the totals accumulate… Geeks everywhere need to monitor pivotal states… No matter from which partisan side you are monitoring… If the server address changes…. record it… report it on a live forum.. Allow others to witness it in real time… (Some may remember that Ohio’s Department of Elections header switched to SmartTechCorp.net during tabulations of Ohio’s Kerry votes, and SmartTechcorp.net held the servers for the White House email account of gwb43.com as well as the RNC files of Ohio, New Hampshire, and several other closely contested states…)
Watch for it, record it, post it…
Electronic monitoring is a voter’s best defense… As long as the law is still on our side, we can prosecute those who wrongfully violate the principles of America’s freedom….
So as a citizen of this great nation…. do you duty…. give them nowhere to hide……
