Delaware’s most expensive race this season, has gotten catty. Meow… Republican Greg Lavelle in typical Republican fashion started and attacked Democrat Mike Katz for missing committee meetings… In typical Republican fashion, the charge went like this…. “You’re a no good, two timing, scheming, lazy, and unfit for office, because you missed a few meetings this year!!! How can you even dare run for office when you missed meetings like that!”
It was quickly pointed out on the Rick Jensen show, that Greg Lavelle has missed quite a few meetings over his career too… Since it is a longer career, he’s probably missed a lot more meetings… But charges like that are what one expects from Republicans, especially those in northern New Castle County… I can remember another one like that… I think his name was Clatworthy? Am I right? And another one who’d pull charges out of thin air…. I think the ran for Lt. Governor in 2008 and only got like 17% of the vote or something?
Delawareans don’t like bomb throwers….. Don’t take my word for it. Just ask Janet C. Rzewnicki…..
The Ms Katz takes to the airwaves and levels the Lavelle campaign. It is over. She tells of how she got the call that Mike Katz was about to die and so were his two girls, when the ski lift collapsed and they slammed into the ground. She tells how the paramedic put the phone up to his lips, so they could say the last goodbyes… And Greg Lavelle would use that, to blame Mike Katz for not showing up for meetings?
(Of course he would; how to do it is listed in page 3 of the Republican ethics manual.)
Greg, like the bully in trouble runs to Rick Jensen and says that he was talking about meetings in 2012, and the accident was in 2010. He pulls out a stolen email from the Katz campaign that says Mike has worn out a pair of sneakers going door to door, campaigning since January.
(He also admitted it was common policy to have staffers present at the meetings and that most of the work can be done a lot more efficiently from home. He does it himself quite often.)
Both were in WDEL’s studio this past Friday. Katz responded that he has ongoing medical concerns… (like a broken back) and sometimes, it is impossible to move. As any chiropractor will tell anyone who thinks to ask, often the real pain comes years later, as the cartilage settles and wears thinner… Therapy takes a long time…
For those who live in the Fourth, here is the real deal… Dr. Katz has done more for your district than anyone in recent memory. Prior to Katz, you had a prima-donna who was too busy pursuing Republican Party Rings, to take care of constituent needs. Mike has done more. Mike has fixed the Beaver Dam Road. Mike has gotten things done…
On the other hand, Greg Lavelle has done very little.. Like the predecessor before Dr. Katz, he is more concerned with pursuing Republican rings, than he is in helping Delaware grow. Although all knew there is no way it would pass, he still ( like every Republican) wastes everyone’s time with his proposals for anti-woman legislation, his proposals for anti-marriage legislation, proposals for gigantic, impossible-to-execute tax cuts for the top !% ( so he gets campaign funding from them in return); and bills meant to keep innocent people behind bars who have served their sentence, to stay even longer….. Greg Lavelle is far more concerned about what ALEC seems to think, instead of the people of Delaware.
In fact, the running joke in Dover about Lavelle, is: How do you know when Delaware’s elections season starts? ANSWER: Greg Lavelle is featured in the News Journal, screaming about something wrong with Delaware’s prison system.. LOL. I believe he wanted Danberg fired or something? Danberg? Really? Of all people? True to form, this September, just after Labor Day…. he begins screaming… first to the News Journal, then to Rick Jensen… “We gotta do something; we gotta do something; outrageous; travesty.” Yeah. yeah. yeah.
So residents in the Fourth. Do you want a doer as you have in Mike Katz? Or do you want a screamer, who has been doing it for 12 years… No track record until … Uh oh, it’s election year… Time to scream: ”Fire that guy”.. (he has no power to fire or hire the replacement, he has no responsibility so screaming is his easy way out.”…
It is time to definitely retire Greg Lavelle… Listen to his voice. Does his voice tones sound like he is lying to you too?
Delaware does not need 2000 year Dick Cheney style politics clogging up our getting things done… In fact: this democratic General Assembly has accomplished getting 900% more done than the previously two party divided General Assembly… A big part of that proficiency came from Dr. Katz… Another part or that productivity was that as a Republican, Greg Lavelle was sidelined to where he could do very little damage….
There is no reason to hire Greg Lavelle, a person who is little more than a Copeland clone. Dr. Katz has done much, much more.
In the next four years, Delaware will need to figure out where we go with Obamacare. Without a doctor like Dr. Katz in the General Assembly, we’d be making that foray into the future while.. blind….
This is one clear case of good versus bad. We need the good now more than ever.
Today the jobs bill got sent to the House.
Obama wants taxes on the wealthy, He wants increased taxes on corporate profits to help pay for his jobs bill…
As one reads the bill, one remembers that these same ideas, these same concepts were in last November’s finance bills, which passed the House, and got stalled in the Senate…..
One remembers these same ideas, these same concepts, were in the $4 Trillion Deficit Reduction Act, and all parties were excited that finally something good was coming out of Congress, ….. that is until the Eric Cantor contingent stormed out of the meetings because of higher taxes, and the votes fell short…
Metaphorically speaking it is like Obama (truth) keeps running into a brick wall(stupidity)… and we, keep blaming Obama for not being tough enough….
We should be focused on tearing down that wall…..
‘Tear Down that Wall, Delaware Liberal, Tear Down that Wall..”
Instead, in our frustration (exactly what it is) we blame the very one person on the attack….. ????
I remember a story told here once before, of a charge across “no man’s land” in WWI, where everyone was mowed down except one lucky person… as he stormed the trench, he looked around and noticed he was the only one facing a trench full of weaponry. In disgust, the threw down his weapon and walked away back to his own lines… In the strange code of soldiers honor, no one fired a shot…..
The wall has never been weaker. It is time to chip away at the Republican base, just like we did in 2006… We have facts.. they have Eric Cantor extolling them to remain firm… Our way gets America back on its feet; their way lets them keep their extra 5%. It would be wise to remember, that even Hitler had his dedicated youth during the last days… They have their Young Republicans… blindly following directives that make little if any sense.
Everyone needs to call them on it…
Now is the time to pull out every chart showing that Republicans ruin everything they put their hands on.. Whether it be the United States, the State of Delaware, or Sussex and Kent Counties… Republicans do no good at all..
Which is why they are so well funded….
If you were doing something obscenely illegal, wouldn’t you be paying off the law as well?
So look into yourselves and decide whether you want to be part of the problem… or solution…
The solution is to turn Republicans into a joke. And to do it publicly… The battle is independent voters. And they get hit with shit from both sides… Our shit, simply has to smell a little better….
Focusing on our frustration, only strengthens the other side; that other side which created the deficit, destroyed the global economy, lost 1 out of 10 American jobs, cost you 30% more in insurance premiums, Increased your gas prices 3 times, cost you 60% more for your electrical power, raised the cost of your prescriptions 450%….
Start tearing down the wall………………….
Tony DeLuca, Delaware’s other DeLuca, will again be president pro tem of the Senate.
There never was much of a challenge.
Doug Denison, one of Delaware’s better sources of information, has it all here….
That meant they’d have to get all seven senate Republicans (ha, ha, ha) plus four Democrats to vote against DeLuca.
When the vote came, the Democrats got what they needed from their side, with no votes from Katz and Peterson, plus “not voting” designations filed by Sen. George Bunting, D-Bethany Beach, and Sen. David Sokola, D-Newark.
Karen Peterson was a little chatty. “Bonini told me he was going to vote against DeLuca, but he sold out!” she muttered in disapproval.
Bonini (of course) denied he had mentioned that, and responded: “I know some people are mad at Tony about things, but Tony is a strong leader and we need a strong leader in these times,” he said. “I really think with Tony as pro tem and the leadership they have and the leadership we have, I think we’re going to make progress.”
Translated into English from Delawarean…. ” Tony got to me.”
After all, that’s what an effective pro tem does….
So what now? It’s up to us. Katz, Peterson, Sokala, Bunting will be shut out… However, if we make enough of a stink so DeLuca loses credibility with the populace, the same way we did with Deskdrawer Adams,… he will have to back off a little. Look how we defined and reshaped Delmarva’s preplanned “wind debate”? Bottom line, he has to face re-election in two years. He can’t afford to NOT be a knight in shining armor this session.
Katz, Peterson, Sokala, Bunting! If you get shut out, let us know every detail.
In Robert Reich’s recent plug for the public option, there was a subtle line that slipped by and only just now has begun to resonate…
“Unless you make a hell of a racket, the for-profit insurers and drug companies along with their platoons of Washington lobbyists. and lawyers are going to win this thing….”
I started thinking. You know if one of my kids squawks and the other is silent, the silent one loses out.. I succumbed to the easy way out and just go with the flow, after all it makes little difference to me..
Then i thought of office politics. You know, if a certain group squawks loud enough, upper management always caves into their viewpoint even when the squawker is considered the biggest joke on the floor… nothing more than a pain in the ass… After all, it makes little difference to them, and if it shuts up some asshole, and no one else seems to care, then you know, why not….
So it makes sense that the squawkers arguing against the public option may bend the ear of Congress to the point that when considering the huge vacuum of silence on the other side, they may just cave in against their better sense, and keep all insurance private…
And the 80% of Americans behind the Public Option, get dismissed…. Why? Siimply because you didn’t stand up for your rights when they really mattered…
The arguments have already been made as to why the public option will lower everyone’s medical costs. I won’t reiterate those explanations here. But, I will tell you that 5 years from now, when your house gets foreclosed to pay off medical bills, you will be yelling, or squawking for someone to do something….
And it will be too late… For that someone was you… And the time is now…. and for whatever reason, you chose to do nothing…..
So here is what you must do, if you don’t want to lose your house….. Some of these people I know, it won’t make a difference to. But that is no excuse not to plead your case…. For you, and others, all combined may just make such a “hell of a racket” that for your representative to vote against the Public Option, would not just cost him his office, but cost him all credibility as a future lobbyist, especially in the field he is hoping to retire into.
So do this for yourself, your children, your grandchildren. Pick up the phone, call these numbers and tell them you plan on keeping your house, so they had better vote to allow the public option in the health care reform bill… Remember it takes everyone to make this work…. or if you want special treatment…. just drop in….

We need 100,000 callers… That’s 1/8 of Delaware. And if, you, like someone who graduated from Colby College, just happen to know someone in Maine… or if you, like someone from Bozeman, know people in Montana, or if you, who served at Minot, know someone in North Dakota, get on the phone… and talk them into doing the same thing…
It won’t cost you much… maybe a little time, it will be a chance to catch up with old friends, and……. in 5 years….. you could still have your house because of it…….
To be honest, I never thought I would live to see a Democrat take the fourth district… Never in my wildest dreams. I hope my previous thoughts were wrong for I certainly do not want to die within 15 days….
Most of it has to do with the candidate, himself.. Dr. Michael Katz. If one were to wave a magic wand and say that political parties no longer existed, and every man could represent himself if elected…. Dr. Katz would be a shoo in… Here is why: He is better educated than his opponent, and he thinks before he acts, something Clatworthy is not prone to do. Clatworthy follows the other political tack, you know the one which was quite popular over the past 8 years, that of falling in step with the party and not straying out of bounds…. Both philosophies have their times and places…
But if one had no concern whether he was represented by a Democrat or Republican, then Dr. Katz would be the next representative of the Fourth Senatorial District….
I will show you why Dr. Katz is better for that district during the next term…..
Health Care… we will create a new way of doing health care in Dover sometime during the next term. That is a given, based on the current status of Health Care today. Am I the only one who thinks bringing a doctor to the table would be a good idea? Wouldn’t he be the better choice to explain to us, all that gobblygook those insurance reps like to throw our way? Has the good doctor’s opponent ever had to work with today’s insurance companies to get paid?….. ” your call is important to us…. Please hang on until the next operator is available….. You have been holding 39 minutes….. music“
No doubt you too have seen those same insurance commercials, telling us that national health-care will drive our doctors overseas…. Instead of taking it hook, line, and sinker, should we not instead, ask the good Doctor?
What does his opponent bring to the health care table,….other than a bundle of beliefs? And it is probably silly at this late point to remind you of just where that bundle of beliefs, which are not new but were spouted afresh during one presidential campaign a full 8 years ago…. winning George Bush the presidency….. Just where has that bundle of beliefs led this country over the past 8 years….?
When Delaware looked into building a wind farm off Rehoboth’s coast, both sides spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultancy fees. But when it comes to health care, citizens in the Fourth District currently have someone spending thousands of his own campaign money just to apply for that consultancy position… One of these two candidates will be deciding our health care issues for us. It actually makes sense to vote to the Doctor in. Let’s tap in and get his expert advice for free….
The dead-horse republican platform still beaten by Clatworthy, that one of stressing no taxes, is a misnomer.. Everyone knows that if you grow your economy by funding your appetite on debt, you will soon be out of money… Eventually, some day, you have to pay it back… Of course when you do, not only do you have to pay back the money that you borrowed, but you also pay back the interest on that deal as well. In other words you have to pay interest ON TOP OF all the goods and services you currently use and are paying for as you go… Even if you wanted your state to keep its expenditures at current levels, repair roads, fix schools, etc, you would have to slash necessary goods and services, Since no one can function without basic government services, roads, schools, etc., taxes inevitably will be raised… So just how seriously can we take his pledge to cut taxes?
Oh,…. but Republicans don’t cut taxes…Correct, they just defer taxes down the road, perhaps giving it to one’s children to make up the payments. If you didn’t believe it before, you should by now based on what we have all witnessed done to our national debt over the last 8 years….
Citizens of the Fourth District need also to be concerned about the education of their children… Who would better understand what it takes to make a doctor out of one of Delaware’s children….?
Someone from a fundamentalist Christian school? Or a doctor? My vote for the education of my own children (if there were no such thing as a Democrat or Republican Party) would certainly go first to someone who was a physician in anesthesiology and is an assistant professor at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, as opposed to someone whose claim to fame was that he once sat at the feet of Pat Robertson… Unlike some I am not knocking Regent University. It is just a fact of life that sometimes you need experts to do what they were specialized in… You wouldn’t take your car to a dentist…. likewise vice versa trust your teeth to an engine mechanic…..
Putting political affiliation aside (it won’t mean much this election cycle anyhow) those living in District 4, the Chateau Country, whether wealthy or not, will need someone solid representing them come January for the next two years… Someone solid…
Of course you know Clatworthy’s dad…. But you also know that someone easily bamboozled once they enter lobby heaven, will do the Fourth District more harm then good.
Dr. Mike Katz is no stranger when it comes to dealing with lobbyists…..That is why when Aetna started refusing to cover the anesthesia necessary for colonoscopies, Mike refused to stay silent. Being intimately familiar with the pain and discomfort of colonoscopies experienced by many of his patients, Mike feared that without proper anesthesia, many individuals would simply opt-out of this critical cancer screening. Refusing to let big insurance bully Delawareans, Mike took a stand—and won.
Cancer doesn’t care if you are a Democrat or a Republican.. Let’s hope my fellow voters in the Fourth Senatorial District can be as open-minded.
