Even during the Great Depression, Business fought unions to keep wages down. The unions kept the wage up.
There is something wrong when workers are asked to work for less, and the profits of the companies are becoming more.
There is no good that comes from profit. Profit is not investment. Profit is surplus.
Investment comes before profit. If one invests in something, as a corporate enterprise, you write that investment down as a cost of doing business. Which means the the obscenely high profits are coming after investment has already been made. There will be no more investment out of even higher profits. Instead that extra cash will be used to buy out a competitor, consolidate, and put more workers out of work.
Then they turn to their employees and say, sorry for the lower wages but look at all these people who want your job, even at the reduced rate.
There are two ways society can fight it.
One, stop working and see who starves first.
The second, is to nationalize all businesses, pulling making profit out of the picture.
The third, is to raise taxes.
Of these three options, the better is the third…
Option one, they can hold out and last longer than we can.
Option two, companies tend to lose assets when nations take over, and the nation itself loses.
Option three, allows the making of money and keeps everything functioning as normal.
The reason unemployment is so high, is because profits are huge. Taxes on investment income are now more needed than ever. We need to make it cheaper to hire more people and put more money into ones company, and to grow ones business, than it is to record higher profits.
When the marketplace makes hiring people profitable, unemployment will go down.
You can’t get there by cutting taxes. That is gasoline on the fire. Water, or increased taxes is how we pull ourselves out and give the America the boost it needs.
Republicans caused the unemployment, Vote Democratic to fix it….
I can’t wait to hear Republicans try to defend the dissolution of the United States of America as being patriotic…..
