In one of the better blogs on all things Delawarean, one of their contributors takes on the Rent Control issue when applied to Manufacturing Housing.
Let me explain the issue. It is pure entrapment. When the same thing occurred in New York, they established rent control. It was the only fair thing they could do…. When you buy a car, you make payments; they don’t change. When you buy a house, you make payments; they don’t change. When you buy a fish, you pay a price; it doesn’t change…
But… when you buy a mobile home…$30-50,000 …. you also have to buy a parking space… And it is not like Wilmington, with parking garages all over the place. Usually there is only one spot in the vicinity where you need to live…. So you buy one you can afford. You add the loan payments for the home, plus the rent of parking space, and… presto… you are set for life…..
But what’s this? My lot fee is doubled? I have to pay twice as much for my parking space than I did last year? How can this be? Nothing, nothing in real life doubles its cost in just one year…. So I raise hell and get…. “I’m sorry, Mr/Ms Constituent, I know it is not fair, but its the law. You see, you are on private property and if they wanted to raise the rates 1000% there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop them…”
So I pay, (there goes that raise), but at least I’m able to live, and life goes on…. Until the next year. I get a bill, and it is doubled again… DOUBLED AGAIN!!!!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOU ‘EFFIN MIND? Surely, Mr. Republican, my friendly legislator who was on my doorstep asking for my vote, would get an injunction or something… Surely Mr. Republican could force it back down?
Instead, it is the same letter. Apparently not all Hookers work at night on the streets in the city…..”I’m sorry, Mr/Ms Constituent, I know it is not fair, but its the law. You see, you are on private property and if they wanted to raise the rates 1000% there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop them…”
So I’m not paying.. “F” them… Not doing it… I’m moving to Maryland where they do have rent control. I call a tow truck… He laughs at me… “Ha, ha, ha.. we can only tow brand new homes. Your’s will fall apart on the road, those things aren’t built for moving, ha, ha, ha!” and hangs up….
I’m doing an apartment, then, I’m out of here… Three years later, still in my home;it has not sold… Not even one taker. No one wants a used mobile home…. I can’t leave because I just can’t write off the $30,000 I still owe. So I’m stuck there, till I pay it off, and keep having my parking fees double each year…..
It’s a freaking parking space! Why are they doubling each year? There are no costs increases to the owners. They were happy with the money a year ago when I signed! Why in the hell is this happening…. I ASK. I ask, I …ask, and eventually discover there are no cost increased to the owner. HE just want more money. He sits down at his kitchen table and says, “I’m not happy with $200,000 a year. I want $400,000 a year”, and doubles the rent. Then the next year, he says, “that went well, I’m not happy with $400,000 a year, I want $800,000 a year”. The year after, since it went so well, “I’ want $1.6 million this year”… and ever since the Republican year of 2000 and the election of Republicans, it has never stopped…..
So, what does this have to do with a fish that talks… ?
A fish is a fish, if you wish, if you wish,
And no one can talk to a fish if they wish,
That is if they wish, unless the fish,
Is the famous Ms. Pat!
I’m pulling phrases out of context just for highlights… I think you should read it over at Delaware Politics in its entirety…..
Bear with me.
…Not a single Representative from Sussex beyond two Democrats voted for Bill 205, that socialistic crap that would subject owners of manufactured home parks to oversight by the government in terms of their pricing.” (Apparently if you aren’t fully in favor price gouging little grandmothers on social security, you are now a socialist….that is the official new definition)
“The liberals know how to get down and dirty, deal with emotions, force us to either be silent or take stands we don’t mean.” (Oh, so it is now down and dirty to make an attempt to stop the victimization of those who have no other options, “Officer; this man is robbing me at gunpoint; do something… Oh, I can’t do that. It would be down and dirty for me to prevent a robbery from taking place right in front of me, Carry on… )
It’s time for Conservatives of all stripes, don’t have to be Republicans necessarily, to stand tall and start “teaching” the citizenry a thing or two about life. (This is life, boy! Now just lean over, put your hands on the shower wall, and Jerry, here, will take it nice… and easy … )
If you’re going to call yourself a Conservative of any stripe, get up, take a breath, and take a conservative stand. Anybody calls themselves conservative would NEVER espouse any legislation that would have a private business owner subject to government control ( As long as you guys are making money and sending some of it my way, you guys can do whatever you want to those scumbags… they’re not sending me anything… ha, ha, ha,.)
If the Manufactured Housing Association really, really cared about their members, instead of spending their members’ dues hiring lobbyists to change our laws to socialism, they should lobby for a mandatory class that all potential renters of manufactured housing lots must attend. At this class these consumers would be given warnings on the pitfalls of putting a home on someone’s else’s land, that there might come a time when said lot rental is too high, when the land owner might move (Our first order of business today, in this meeting or the Manufactured Housing is too tell you that you are screwed. It is life, and you have now, after you signed the paperwork and moved your expensive home here, have absolutely no recourse but to pay ever increasing costs to your owners. I’m sorry there is nothing you can do. Apparently anything fair, is called Socialism and must be fought here in Sussex County against at all costs.)
Yes, it’s time for the Republicans/Conservatives to be men about it and speak the truth loud and clear. Anybody can get Grandma to sob in front of a TV camera. The solution is not to cringe and hide in a corner. It’s why they win! ( o guys, listen up! After we rape them, we should kill them, and bury the bodies. That way they can’t “cry if they want to” and turn public sympathy against us. Imagine, the government trying to stop rape.. Pure Socialism!”)
Americans do have a fine sense of fairness. While we’re a sympathetic and kind nation, we’d understand that the solution to Grandma’s concern over her manufactured home’s lot rental is NOT to control the lawful business of the park owner but to figure out a way to help Grandma over the hump. (Granny, I’m sorry those bad men held you down and raped you, but… we have counseling services for only $100 which will make you feel better. Oh, hey, Camay even donated some soap. What a great corporate sponsor. You are so lucky to have so many people on your side…)
Perhaps she has an errant grandson who she’s supporting, perhaps she gambles a bit too much, so often further research reveals so much more than the liberals want seen. (Anyway, it is her fault. She was asking for it. She by being old, on steady income, and what she thought smart by living according to her means, and otherwise appearing weak, is asking for it… “oooo… come take me… I’m…. . vulnerable.”)
I’d add that there IS already a law on Delaware’s books that provides monetary assistance for lot renters in manufactured housing parks who find themselves adrift due to the sale of the land on which they live….There are welfare agencies and other government bureaus to help those in need. (The government can help them if they can’t afford how we take advantage of them… After all, that is why and what government is there for, shovel money directly to business owners)
If manufactured home lot renters get such special help, how about those living in an apartment where the rent rises above their ability to pay? (Ummmm apartment renters could move without leaving everything they own behind…. which manufactured home owner’s can’t…This is not even a singular correlation… You’re losing us here, little fish…)
Conservatives need to make their case that the solution is best made by the private sector, NOT the government. (Uhhh, did you just read what I just read?)
Which brings me to Romney/Ryan and their job. The Republican ticket needs to fight back against Grandma boo-hooing all over our TV screens or even, horrors, being pushed off the cliff…. Conservatives need to change what they’ve been doing, grow a pair, enumerate positions and why the Conservative way will work best. Cringing in a corner isn’t doing it. (Rape is good….. real… good…. Be proud of it man!… )_
So-called local candidates who broke down and indicated they are on the side of the manufactured home lot renters, did exactly what Conservatives should NOT do. (So, let me get this right. Sussex County Republicans vote against any type of rent control, and then, you call them out when they pretend to show they have a heart. Hat’s off to you, Fish, for pointing that out… They walked a different way from how they talk when they need a vote. All Sussex County voters do need to know that. This is why I love you!)
If you think Ms Fish’s article points to the right human values, you need to support the Republican Party of Sussex County. But as a Christian myself, I think the most important line of her piece is this one……
It was two Democrats out of Sussex County who voted for Bill 205…..
If fairness is now Socialism, we need soooo much socialism now in Sussex County. If Christianity, and the teachings of Jesus, are now Socialism, we need soooo much socialism now in Sussex County….
( I love Pat Fish; she is awesome. People should be allowed to express opinions, and she expresses hers very well. I really, really like that, and think she is an incredible asset to Delaware Politics… Controversy creates discussion. Discussion creates opportunity. Opportunity creates a new future.)

Sombre
Pat Fish sounds like Scrooge – right out of a Christmas Carol by Dickens:
“The boy is Ignorance. The girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing is erased.”
“Have they no refuge or resource?” Scrooge asks.
The Spirit responds by turning Scrooge’s own words from earlier in the book against him. “Are there no prisons?” he asks. “Are there no workhouses?”
“are there no workhouses?……Pat Fish???
“I’d add that there IS already a law on Delaware’s books that provides monetary assistance for lot renters in manufactured housing parks who find themselves adrift due to the sale of the land on which they live….There are welfare agencies and other government bureaus to help those in need..”
Nice going there – kee yacking on DP – I can see you will make friends…

‘Lowlife’ peasants can go fish.
“…Mike Castle, for the right payback promise,
never much bothered to address the lowlifes
who supported him for so long.” End fish quote
Wow, did madam just called Sussex republicans ‘lowlifes?’
She makes what it means to be ‘republican’ – perfectly clear.
Imagine that – telling ‘lowlife’ Sussex republicans,
to man up and protect avaricious slumlords.
One has seen this before, when rich republicans
play their dumb asz ‘voters’ like
obedient, servile lackeys.
When the cards are on the table,
republicans tell their ‘lowlife’ voters,
to back the greedy rich who stand
idly by.
‘Greed in good,’ even when it hurts you,
republicans tell their ‘lowlife’ members.
“There are welfare agencies
and other government bureaus to help those in need.”
Go fish.
