Nothing is worse they sharing an apartment with several guys and one TV.
Of course ABC is out due to the national boycott being exercised by Americans still possessing “honor”. But with Pennsylvania going wild over the primary election, the Flyers, and the 76′er’s,….we probably should have rented two extra TV’s to keep peace within the house.
But this three way fight gave one great insight into American politics. Over the past week we have tested out this hypothesis on unsuspecting citizens.
What we discovered was that Obama appealed to basketball fans. He masters his game with deft moves, always within the guidelines outlined by the rules. Hockey fans love Hillary. Screwing the rules, lashing out in anger, trying to kill the other team, were highly prized traits which they value in their candidate.
Both are sports. Neither one can be considered better than the other…..they are just different…. The debonair 3 point shooter, would last 30 seconds on the ice before being slammed into the boards. Likewise a hockey player, would have fouled out long before the first minute had clipped the clock.
Comparing a hockey player to a basketball player for a spot on the football team Philadelphia Eagles, is sort of where we are in deciding the next President of the United States. Which of those traits would better suit a quarterback,….which would better suit a president.
Each has traits that can be beneficial, but those very traits could also turn into their demise.
In the end it will come down to numbers. Since we are discussing a political race, what really matters is whether there are more hockey fans scattered across this country, or more basketball fans……
I would guess basketball wins the battle of numbers…….The NCAA totals for 2007 amounted to 27,705,912. For the regular season 2008, the NHL gives us a number of 20,854,169 fans. Obviously we are comparing apples to oranges, but it looks like the data is too close to call.
Obviously any Flyer’s’ fan will appreciate Hillary’s scrappiness. I would venture that PA has a 10% more hockey fans than it does its basketball fans. Therefore it is no surprise that Hockey beat Basketball in yesterday’s primary.
Other parts of this country have little regard for hockey. Obama, who presents the graceful classiness of a Michael Jordan, should be expect to fare much better out there, for he more closely represents their values…………
Addendum:
But one should note that Obama outspent Hillary 3 to 1. That can give some in Hillary’s camp a shot in their arm, but…….it also meant Hillary had to throw everything she had in their campaign chest, against Obama in Pennsylvania…..and could now come up short, that she is again facing a must-win in both North Carolina and Indiana. Obama can outspend them there as well. Just as the North withered down the South over the course of the the Civil War; just as Reagan forced the Soviet Union to live beyond their means, until it was unable to keep moving forward, and broke down, Obama’s wealth can undo Hillary’s campaign. Hillary needs to raise money simultaneously while campaigning and spending that money as soon as she gets it. Obama can just campaign.
